Position: Bike Works Program Assistant
Type: part-time, seasonal from May to October

The Bike Works Program Assistant is responsible for delivering a range of active living programs at Bike Works, with a focus on Learn to Bike lessons, Bike Obstacle Courses, and trail rides with youth. Our programs are a balance of fee-for-service and free community programs, and the successful candidate will be comfortable working with diverse populations and ability levels. There is potential for year-round opportunities with the skating rink programs and hike programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Project Leader and Shop Coordinator in delivery of Evergreen programs at Bike Works, including but not limited to: leading Learn to Bike lessons, assisting with group rides and cycling school programs, and setting up and supervising public Bike Obstacle Courses;
  • Ensure safe delivery of programs according to Evergreen policies, procedures and training;
  • Support additional Bike Works programs as needed, including training workshops, and special events and celebrations at Evergreen Brick Works;


  • Customer-focus. Anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of customers to meet or exceed their expectations
  • Flexibility/adaptability. Flexible, versatile and/or tolerant in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency. Adjust quickly to changing priorities and conditions. Cope effectively with complexity and change.
  • Calm under pressure. Demonstrate composure in stressful situations.
  • Communication. Speak, listen and write in a clear, confident, respectful, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques.


Reporting Relationships:

  • Supervised by: Project Leader – Active Living
  • Supervises: Volunteers, Interns


  • 1-2 years of previous work/volunteer experience in bike-related programming, education or training (or similar)
  • Experience working with children in a mentoring or coaching role
  • Demonstrated public engagement and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and ability levels
  • CPR/First Aid (or willing to obtain)
  • Can Bike 2 Certified (an asset)
  • Bike mechanic certification or experience (an asset)

Working conditions:

  • Lifting up to 40lbs
  • Working in inclement weather
  • Safely handling chemicals and tools found in a bike shop environment

Physical requirements:

  • Standing for extended periods of time
  • Lifting heavy objects on a regular basis

Terms of contract: Part-time, seasonal from May to October. Potential for year-round opportunities.
