Position: Advisor, Responsible Business
Organization: World Vision Canada
Location: Ottawa preferred (Mississauga potential), Ontario
Are you looking for more than a job? At World Vision Canada we offer challenging careers that change the lives of children all over the world and it will change yours too. Come and be part of a team of over 500 Canadians with a vision for the world: Life in all its fullness for every child.
You will experience Christian faith in action helping to make real and lasting change in the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children. Join the World Vision Canada team and be part of a powerful and effective force for good: For Children. For Change. For Life.
World Vision Canada (WVC) engages directly with Canadian companies and in related government policy conversations to advance the well-being of the world’s most vulnerable girls and boys and their families. For companies to contribute positively to child well-being, there is a need for a focus on sustainable, inclusive development, socially and environmentally-responsible business practices, transparency, and alignment with the self-identified needs and priorities of developing countries.
Our engagement with the private sector is diverse: we work directly with companies to deliver impact on the ground, to raise funding to support WVC programs, to promote potential shared-value partnerships, and to influence their operations and policies for the sake of child rights and well-being. WVC also engages with the Canadian government to advance policies and regulations that promote responsible business.
The primary purpose of the Advisor, Responsible Business position is to strengthen WVC’s capacity to promote responsible operations and policies of companies which operate in, source from, or provide services to developing contexts in which World Vision works. Special attention will be paid to mining and to retail supply chains. The Advisor will use her/his knowledge of responsible business practices, of corporate engagement, and of government engagement, to support the work of senior World Vision (WV) staff, and to engage directly at a working level with companies and government. The advisor will utilize a broad range of research and analytical skills to develop advice, recommendations and strategies for engagement which are clear, logical, well-written, and accurate. The Advisor will work closely with other Corporate Engagement stakeholders across WVC (and the wider WV Partnership) to promote responsible business practices for any Canadian company which WV engages. Ultimately this will result in deepened transformational partnerships with Canadian companies to meet WV’s mission.
