Position: Community Engagement Specialist
Duration: seasonal/summer, approx. 10-16 weeks
Organization: Scales Nature Park
Location: Oro-Medonte, near Orillia/Barrie, Ontario

Scales Nature Park is a 21 hectare conservation area located just south of Orillia, Ontario. The focus of this facility is the conservation of reptiles, amphibians, and fish, and the habitats that these animals require.

Community Engagement Specialist

Duties will include:

  • assist with the co-ordination and delivery of community outreach programming including presentations, displays, and turtle blitzes, promote the turtle hotline
  • monitor the turtle hotline and co-ordinate effective response from field teams, as well as responding directly to calls when appropriate or required
  • assist with development of new strategies for community engagement within the target region, and the development of volunteer training and related efforts

Duration: Varies with position, approximately 10-16 weeks

Salary: $490 - $560 / week depending on the position funding

Strong organizational and communications skills required. Positions require attention to detail, multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment, and calmness when dealing with stressed callers. Familiarity with MSOffice and Google suite software and web applications required. Positive attitude and commitment to conservation are essential. Valid G or G2 driver’s license and good driving record required. Flexibility regarding scheduling is important. Knowledge of local geography is an asset.

Shared accommodation may be available on-site. The ability to thrive as part of a close-knit team in challenging situations and a live/work environment is important.
