Position: Program Coordinator
Organization: Sustainability Resources
Location: Calgary, Alberta

Contract Position: 20-30 Hours / Week *Dependent upon funding.

Remuneration: $25.00 - $35.00 / Hour *Dependent upon experience and qualifications.

The Best Candidate

The Program Coordinator will be a dedicated self-starter using a myriad of skills and tools to coordinate a Climate Resilience Program delivered through Sustainability Resources in collaboration with program partners, and a highly-skilled resource team.

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge of various levels of government, academic and NGO participation in resource management and conservation initiatives in Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan and Canada
  • Experience in developing sustainability or climate resilience plans with stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational public speaking, communications and writing skills
  • Knowledge of climate related policies for municipal, provincial, and federal governments
  • Demonstrated understanding of environmental sustainability and commitment to conservation and sustainable resource management
  • Experience coordinating work-teams, and volunteers


  • Post-graduate degree in environmental management, climate sciences, sustainability, or related field.
  • Minimum 2, preferred 4 years experience in related field
  • Experience in developing and delivering programs and services related to municipalities and sustainability

The Role

The Program Coordinator will be responsible for developing and coordinating communications, meetings, innovation forums (events), and assisting with the coordination of program staff to achieve the outcomes of the Climate Resilience Program.

  1. Develop a draft community resilience planning workbook based upon the Star Community Framework to guide municipal community partners. This is to be finalized in partnership with communities.
  2. Conduct a survey for community partners, and facilitate for broader stakeholder input during Regional Forums.
  3. Coordinate and host 5 Rural Community Forums across Alberta to identify perceived climate risks, and opportunities specific to each municipality involved in the pilot program.
  4. Compile facilitation workbook, forum speaker abstracts and key outcomes into reports for community and program partners.
  5. Develop presentations to municipal councils and senior staff with facilitation questions to populate community specific work plans referencing outcomes of regional forums, and draft success measures.
  6. Coordinate meetings with senior staff and set up delegations to council, approve work plans and budget with rural partners
  7. Coordinate and oversee the work plans related to research, marketing and communications, and technical development of a web-based inventory of climate resilience strategies and tools.
  8. Finalize and harmonize climate adaptation and resilience plans across regions; present to partner senior staff and councils for approval.
  9. Compile and finalize a community resilience toolkit with components: Community Resilience Planning Workbook; Climate Risk Inventory; Reference Plans; Benchmarking Criteria; and Links to Digital Compendium.
  10. Communicate outcomes of the program to partners, and funders.
