ORGANIC FARMING

Position: Organic Farm Intern
Term: full-time approx May 1 – Oct 15, room+board+stipend, more (see below)
Farms:
Little Fields Farm / Perry's Corners Farm
Location: Drumbo, Ontario (with accom.)

Little Fields Farm and Perry's Corners Farm are looking for a shared intern! We are looking for a positive and hard-working individual who is enthusiastic about farming. You’ll work alongside two experienced and knowledgeable female farmers and gain a wide range of farming skills in raising livestock and running a successful CSA/market garden!

About Us

Megan and Claire are neighbours and friends with farms about 5 minutes apart from each other.

Little Fields Farm produces an acre of organic vegetables for the Kitchener Farmer's Market and a 30 member CSA program. Claire also raises laying hens, meat chickens, turkeys and heritage pigs. This will be Little Fields Farm's fifth year in operation and Claire's eight year of farming.

Perry's Corners Farm specializes in raising rare and heritage breeds of livestock. Megan has a herd of Lynch Lineback cattle, a flock of sheep, Tammworth and Large Black pigs as well as meat chickens and laying hens. The number one priority at Perry’s Corners Farm to ensure the animals have happy healthy lives and to produce the best quality nourishing food. Megan has over a decade of experience breeding and raising livestock and selling to the local community.

The Internship

We are looking for someone to start approximately May 1st and work until October 15th. You would split your time between our two farms, working Monday-Wednesday at Perry's Corners Farm and Thursday-Saturday at Little Fields Farm. Expect to work 8 hours/day 6 days/week. Sundays are off and you'll have one week of vacation.

We will provide accomodation at Megan’s apartment in Drumbo plus a $50 weekly stipend and all the fresh eggs and veggies that you can eat. The apartment is conveniently located in walking distance to many amenities - a pharmacy, a diner, a pub, two gas station/convince stores, Morrows (the store that sells everything!) and much more.

Both farms are within a 5-10 minute drive (or a 30 minute bike ride) of several small towns (Ayr, Drumbo, Plattsville). Kitchener is less than a 30 minute drive.
