OCO has recently created a new Organic Knowledge Base all within one custom-developed application that draws data on membership, certification, and products from our online Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform and system of record, Hubspot. This application’s focus is creating an online knowledge hub that helps organic operators navigate the organic standards and certification process and provide knowledge to commonly asked questions from the public. The application also employs various custom import tools to pull data from a variety of sources to create dynamic and up-to-date data reports on the organic sector (acreage, number of operators etc.) using Data Wrapper. However, while the development budget for the application is spent, there are still many processes and user experience improvements required to create a seamless experience for OCO members and staff and to reduce manual entries.

The Organic Information Systems and Knowledge Base Coordinator will manage this new application and improve it to create a seamless experience for OCO members, staff and public users. The Knowledge Base will:

  • Support new producers and businesses navigating the organic certification and the Canadian Organic Standards;
  • Provide resources and increase access to information on regenerative and organic practices to increase transitioning to more climate-friendly practices;
  • increase awareness of the climate-friendly impacts of organic agriculture among the public, encouraging more organic purchases and greater demand for organic products;
  • connect organic producers and businesses across the province, supporting stronger local, organic food systems; and
  • create easier to access information and resources for producers and businesses interested in transitioning to organic food production.
