The Harrison Lewis Coastal Discovery Centre on Nova Scotia's South Shore (Port Joli) seeks the help of advanced hospitality industry students who, in addition to their chosen career field, share a passion for natural history and wildlife.
Two positions, Field Station Assistant and Program Assistant, are open for returning students.
Program 14 weeks, 37.5 hrs per week, $13.50 per hr.
The Field Station Assistant will be responsible for providing assistance for programs, events, and activities relating to natural history and rural life skills workshops; helping the manager with program development, and scheduling, as well as advertising and promotion employing all avenues including print and social media; overseeing and participating in tasks relating to guest comfort and experience during nature-based programs, events, workshops, and field trips. The position will address local priorities through programs for seniors; the promotion and enhancement of nature tourism in the area, the arts, culture, fitness, and heritage-focused workshops.
The Program Assistant will be responsible for assisting in maintaining dining, lecture, and accommodation areas and the implementation of programs and activities with team members, volunteers, instructors and faciliators. She/he will work with staff and/or board members helping to fulfill the mandate of the HLC addressing local priorities through participation in the promotion, advertising, and implementation of events, programs, workshops and other activities relating to natural history, rural skills, the arts, and familiarity with the outdoors for students, seniors, area residents, and visitors.
