Hiring: Farm & Animal Care Assistant

The Raptors is seeking a Farm & Animal Care Assistant to join our team!

We are a birds of prey organization with the goal of encouraging conservation through education, with a partnership dedicated to sustainable farming and food production at our nearby farm.

We are looking for a Farm & Animal Care Assistant, based primarily at our farm property in the Cowichan Valley, as well as working out of our visitor centre in Duncan. This person would be responsible for assisting with the care and management of food production animals and rescue animals at the farm, assisting with farm property upkeep and projects, assisting with horticultural projects, and working at the visitor centre to facilitate hands-on experiences and educate guests.

The suitable candidate would have:

• Experience with basic animal husbandry
• Farming experience (including crop/animal care, use of heavy equipment, etc.)
• Ability to be adaptable to working on multiple projects
• Strong work ethic
• Attention to detail
• Passion for environmental conservation and green methods of cultivation
• Passion for wildlife and wildlife friendly farming practices
• A positive attitude and demeanour

Exceptional candidates may also possess the following:

• Horticulture experience
• Post-secondary education in a relevant field (biology, agriculture, horticulture, etc.)
• Outdoor field skills
• First aid training and experience
• Public speaking and/or education experience
• Produce marketing experience (e.g., Farmer’s Markets, etc.)

This is a full-time, seasonal position, with the potential to transfer to a permanent position for the right candidate. Wages start at $18 – 19/hour, dependent on experience.
