GUELPH OUTDOOR & NATURE EDUCATION

Position: Summer Outdoor/Nature Connection Instructor
Organization: The Guelph Outdoor School
Location: Guelph, Ontario
Term: June 28 - Sept. 02
Type: Summer Outdoor Immersion Instructor

Details: Running weekly nature immersion sessions on teams of 2-3 staff, with groups 12-14 kids. Monday-Friday. 9 weeks, with options to take 1-2 weeks off according to your schedule. Options to continue as a nature immersion instructor in the fall as part of GOS weekly programs.

Guelph Outdoor School (GOS) provides a dynamic, full nature immersion learning environment and active mentorship for youth in Guelph and surrounding areas. Programs are designed to help with positive growth and development for kids: physical, emotional, cognitive, social and academic.

Background & Qualifications

  • Background in education and / or child development is an asset, inc:
    • Early Child Education (ECE)
    • EA (Educational Assistant)
    • Child and Youth Care (CYC)
    • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed)
    • Degree in Outdoor Recreation
    • Early Intervention Specialist
    • Inclusion Specialist with training in neurodiversity and / or working with adversities
    • Social Worker, Child Therapist
    • Nature Based Therapy
  • Background in nature immersion and outdoor education, a passion for the outdoors an asset
  • Standard First Aid/CPR is required. Training can be provided through GOS
  • Second Language an asset (including ASL, Indigenous Languages,)
  • Over 18 years old

The Position:

Co-lead summer nature immersion programs as part of a team experienced GOS instructors.

Support upkeep and maintenance of program site and ensures all applicable safety standards are met.

Represent Guelph Outdoor School and advance the work of supporting nature connection for kids, families, and communities.

Additional Requirements:

Access to transportation to various sites around Guelph.

While a love of the outdoor is important, we also look for people with skills in communication (ASL, indigenous languages), art, music, naturalist knowledge, conflict resolution, and facilitation.
