Position Summary

The role and responsibilities of a faculty member focus on the activities related to teachers, academics and scholars. They include but are not limited to an awareness of current scholarship and continuing mastery in one’s field, instructional and professional duties, professional development, and service. In addition, duties and responsibilities may include scholarly activity.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach lecture and lab sections for the assigned courses and to commit to their ongoing development, hold regular office hours, mark all assignment and exams, and report grades. All courses have been taught previously and there are notes, assignments, labs, tests, etc. available for instructor use.

The successful applicant will be an integral member of the Sustainable Construction Management Technology Department that is committed to excelling in meeting the needs of both students and industry.

Education and Experience

The minimum qualification is a Master’s degree, or an equivalent level credential as appropriate for the discipline; however, consideration will be given to candidates with a degree in Construction/Engineering/Technology related subjects and some form of recognized environmental qualification including (but not limited to) LEED, BREEAM, GreenStar, Envision, Energy Star, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard.

  • Candidates must be committed to a team approach, demonstrate good written and oral English skills and have good interpersonal skills.
  • The ideal candidate will have an exceptional teaching record with demonstrated learner-centred teaching philosophy.
  • An active profile in scholarship, research and creative activity will be considered an asset.
  • Successful applicants will be an integral part of the team that will help Okanagan College realize the promise of a world-class college. Candidates will be comfortable in a computerized environment and demonstrate knowledge of programs relevant to their discipline.

  • Designs and teaches a course with regard for learning outcomes
  • Teaches in a variety of modes, including lecture, discussion, active student involvement and laboratory work as appropriate

  • Knowledgeable about the subject matter of the teaching area and able to teach the subject matter at a post-secondary level

Preferred Qualifications

The Sustainable Construction Management Technology program is seeking a full time, continuing faculty instructor. The successful candidate should have theoretical knowledge, practical experience and teaching experience in some or all of the following:

  • construction measurements and drafting
  • quantity surveying and estimating
  • scheduling and cost control
  • project planning and project delivery
  • lean construction
  • conflicts in construction
  • statics and strength of materials
  • leadership and innovation
  • procurement process
  • construction law.
