Position: Green Club Animator
Organization: B.A.S.E. Daycare Program of the English Montreal School Board
Location: Montréal, Quebec

Job/Position Summary:

To facilitate extracurricular activities with elementary school children participating in the before and after school daycare program as a Green and Gardening Animator. Must be able to travel throughout the city of Montreal.

PART TIME/SPLIT SHIFT:

Hours: Minimum 15 hours per week / Maximum 30 hours per week

Start Date: March 2019
End Date: June 2019
(With potential for garden maintenance work in the summer months)

Organizational Status:

The B.A.S.E. Daycare Program provides engaging extracurricular activities to all students registered in Daycare at an EMSB school. B.A.S.E Animators report to the Project Development Office in Environmental Education. Animators work independently to facilitate activities to students, with respect to the students’ and daycare’s needs and interests.

Description of Program:

Green Club teaches students to consider the possibilities of the natural environment, and the role we as humans play in shaping and caring for the planet. This program focuses on bringing the classroom outdoors, and encouraging students to use their sense of observation and responsibility to care for plants and sometimes even worms. Students will be exposed to topics such as composting, water conservation, gardening, cooking and much more.

Work Performed:

  • B.A.S.E. Animators are responsible for facilitating activities about gardening and environmental education. Activities take place for 1-1.5 hours before or after school.
  • B.A.S.E. Animators are responsible for creating an Activity Plan for each class
  • B.A.S.E. Animators are responsible for garden care, planning and executing school events

Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Must have thorough knowledge of gardening, garden maintenance and environmental topics

  • Strong interpersonal skills for dealing patiently with students of varied skill-levels

  • Experience planning and facilitating activities with young people is required

  • Access to a car is an asset
