We are looking for experienced gardeners with skills in landscape maintenance, fine pruning, plant health care, and planting perennials and annuals. The successful candidate will be someone who has experience, but also wants to apply and expand their skills. We are committed to providing quality, detailed, and skilled work.

Founded 5 years ago, outside matters is a residential garden maintenance and plantscaping company operating out of TTC accessible location in North York. Planting projects and maintenance clients have us servicing the Beaches, Rosedale, downtown Toronto, and North York. During our workday, we opt for the organic options, because our team members are handling the products and we want to nurture our surrounding landscapes. You’ll have great equipment to use: from our fleet of new vehicles to some of the latest battery powered equipment, you’ll never be let down. At outside matters, safety is never an afterthought. We consistently provide a safe working environment for our team and our clients.

Our Team members take pride in the quality of their work, take pride in the team they belong to, and the company they represent. A super candidate will role model professionalism through hard work and collaboration with team members to deliver high quality services.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Strong experience in all aspect aspects of professional garden and lawn maintenance: including small landscape machine work executed with precision, pruning, annual and perennial planting, and plant health care.
  • Strong plant and shrub identification skills
  • Being thorough and precise in your field work
  • Safety conscious & punctual
  • Physically fit and active and be able to lift up to and including 45 lbs. for large, heavy objects for plant installations.
  • Ability to work up to 12 hour days, Monday through Friday.
  • Stamina to work through all types of weather: heat, cold, rain, and even some snow
  • Works hard not just for yourself but for your fellow team
  • Valid G class “Ontario” license and a clean drivers abstract
  • Must have own: CSA approved steel boots, Secateurs and Holster, and Proper rain gear

Daily Duties:

  • Operate small landscape machinery with precision (line trimmers, hedge trimmers, small mowers, and blowers)
  • Share Driving duties
  • Work in accordance with all local health, safety laws and regulations
  • Load and unload materials, tools and equipment required to complete daily maintenance tasks and planting projects
  • Track time and materials through phone application

Preference given to candidates who:

  • Previous experience in a relevant industry
  • Formal or informal education or training in gardening/Horticulture.
  • One who understands efficiencies and organization of the job.
  • Planting experience with seasonal bedding plants, and bulbs
  • Planting experience with perennial plantings and trees
  • An artistic side: Seasonal Urn & container creation experience
  • Like coffee and or Tea!

Wages and Extra Benefits:

Following a full year of employment foliage provides:

  • $200.00 annual contribution dedicated to the purchase of work-related clothing/gear.
  • We encourage growth for returning employees by investing annually in their pursuit of professional development during the off season with Industry standard Courses ($350.00)
