Position: Expert Food Grower
Organization: Victory Gardens Co-op
Location: Vancouver, BC

The Position:

We’re looking for stellar folks to help build, maintain and educate in edible, productive and beneficial gardens in Vancouver, BC. You will have the opportunity to build organic vegetable gardens in all kinds of spaces, maintain ecological landscapes and grow food in our region. Not to mention you’ll get to work outside all summer long! Who needs the gym?

About Victory Gardens:

Victory Gardens is a Vancouver based worker cooperative that is motivated to transform landscapes to become productive, beneficial and beautiful. Our model removes the barriers to all types of production, including annual vegetable, perennial fruit, pollinator, native and xeriscaped gardens. We ensure the gardens thrive through education and maintenance. All garden activities are organic and are intentionally focused on ensuring continuity with existing landscapes and adding to local biodiversity.

Responsibilities and Skills:

Expert Food Grower:

  • Plan, plant and maintain organic food gardens which includes:
    • Plan food garden schedule and execute planting of both seeds and starts
    • Strategize and foresee opportunities to improve garden infrastructure, productivity, etc.
    • Pest and disease diagnosis and organic management
    • Watering the greenhouse
    • Ability to manage relationship with clients and gardens over time

Garden Installation:

  • Assist with the delivery/pick-up of all inputs necessary for installations
  • Provide manual labour to move a variety of materials including: Wood, garden beds, rock, soil
  • Ensure tools and supplies are organized
  • Ensure job sites are tidy throughout installation

Skills & Qualities We’re Looking For:

  • 3+ years of food-growing experience in a similar climate
  • Class 5 license is required with experience driving trucks (most are automatic, driving standard an asset), and having your own vehicle an asset
  • Enjoys working outdoors (and has good rain gear!)
  • Capable of detailed note keeping and communication, with both the team and the client
  • Self-starter attitude and exceptional time management skills
  • Flexibility for changing seasonal schedule
  • Punctual, professional and reliable
  • Some landscaping experience an asset


  • $23 to $25/hr to start (pending experience), with access to health benefits after 3 months of employment
  • Full time (32-40 hours) beginning late February/early March, until the season slows with (typically) reduced work hours in summer months (vacation!). Fall schedule determined by the amount of work with the likelihood of staying on until October
  • Some longer days may be required
