Position: Direct Response Manager

Greenpeace is the world’s largest independent environmental organization, with 26 regional offices operating in 55 countries around the globe. Greenpeace Canada is seeking a motivated Direct Marketing Manager to join our fundraising team and oversee our monthly giving program, which currently generates more than $7 million in annual income from monthly donors.

The Direct Response Manager (Monthly Giving) will work closely with members of the Fundraising Department, as well as colleagues across the organization and global network to contribute to our campaigns for a greener, more peaceful future.

This is an exciting opportunity for people with diverse backgrounds and with fundraising and/or marketing experience.

Among their duties, the Direct Response Manager will be responsible for:

  • managing the day-to-day relationship with our face-to-face and telemarketing agency partners and working with them to meet ambitious fundraising goals
  • developing budgets, targets and plans for acquiring, retaining, upgrading and reactivating monthly donors through multiple direct marketing channels
  • scheduling and conducting regular trainings for telemarketing and canvassing teams and creating and regularly updating all relevant scripts, cases for support, and training materials
  • conducting mystery shopping and using other quality control measures to ensure canvassers and callers are on message, and working with agency partners to quickly address any misinformation or complaints
  • monitoring attrition rates of new monthly donors and developing strategies to improve retention, loyalty and long-term value, and working closely with colleagues on processes around welcoming, thanking and engaging donors
  • reviewing, tracking and submitting all invoices, and ensuring expenses keep within defined budgets
  • working the Data and Analytics Unit, determining selection criteria for telemarketing programs and ensuring timely delivery of data to agency partners
  • reporting on program performance and KPIs through regular management and Greenpeace International reports
  • collaborating closely with the Digital Fundraising and Engagement Manager to create digital programs to recruit new donors and build engagement with existing monthly donors
  • researching, recommending and testing new and innovative strategies to increase monthly giving acquisition and diversify acquisition sources
  • contributing to, participating in, and/or leading integrated campaigns, project teams, and relevant Greenpeace international working groups


  • Three or more years’ experience in a related field or role
  • Project management skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Computer skills, including good working knowledge of Excel
  • Experience with budget management
  • Organizational, administrative and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Fluency in English; French bilingualism is a significant asset
  • Knowledge of environmental issues and the environmental sector
  • Knowledge of the overall goals and intent of Greenpeace
  • Experience of campaigning, lobbying, or advocacy is an asset
