Position: DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
Organization: Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation
Location: Toronto, Ontario

The Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation is a charitable grant-making organization working to help keep farmers successful, strengthen local economies, and protect and grow natural features. 

Director of Development

Secure funds for the organization by identifying and managing a group of assigned, qualified donors, assuring that as many as possible are retained as continuing donors to the organization. Cultivate and steward major gifts. Develop and execute grant identification and submission strategy. Confirm and meet targets, reporting quarterly to CEO.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage annual giving plan
  • Research and write submissions for grant funding
  • Develop a major gift strategy for the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation
  • Qualify and cultivate major gift donors through prospect research and mining personal network
  • Design a major gift campaign and supporting materials
  • Solicit and benchmark major gifts
  • Work with senior team to cultivate a culture of philanthropy within the organization
  • Manage donor stewardship
  • Research and develop prospects for corporate and Foundation partners
  • Support communications team in developing fundraising communications materials
  • Monitor all prospect contacts to ensure appropriateness of asks
  • Support digital team’s work on annual giving campaign

Required Skills:

  • 6-10 years as a fundraising professional, preferably with a focus on major gifts and/or grants
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • CFRE Preferred
  • Demonstrable success in soliciting major gifts (preferably in the environmental sector)
  • Ability to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle
  • Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of completing assignments
  • Familiarity with Nation Builder
  • Strong interpersonal, organization and time management skills
  • Positive outlook, diplomatic nature, team player
  • Passion for the environment an asset
  • Experience in events an asset
  • Ability to travel

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The position will be based at our Toronto office (downtown) in a typical office setting. Salary is commensurate with experience.
