SOFTWARE DEVELOPER

Hiring: Intermediate UI Engineer
Company: Metafold 3D
Location: We are headquartered in Toronto and preference will be given to candidates in the Eastern time zone. We are a remote-first work environment, but will soon be opening a Toronto office for hybrid work possibilities.

INTERMEDIATE UI ENGINEER

Metafold 3D is building a new frontier of design software for industrial 3D printing applications in clean tech, medical devices, energy management and beyond. We support our users to develop game changing innovations with ultra-high geometric complexity.

We are seeking an experienced web developer who is passionate about building compelling and fast web applications that scale. This role creates a bridge between Metafold’s mathematics-heavy backend and our users: engineers creating vanguard technologies using 3D printing.

About Metafold 3D

Metafold 3D is a Toronto-based company creating cloud-native design software for industrial 3D printing. Increasingly engineers are looking to the design freedoms of 3D printing to solve pressing challenges across a range of industries: for example in carbon capture, environmental filtration, heat exchange, and orthopedic implants. However, developments in 3D printing hardware have outpaced the development of 3D printing design software, leading to frustrating and inefficient workflows. Metafold aims to change that by making it easy to work with highly complex geometry for 3D printing.

Metafold is an early stage startup, and our software Lightcycle is currently available in beta. You will have the opportunity to make your mark on our technology and our company, and we are seeking a candidate who is passionate about contributing to build both our product and our team culture.

About the Role

As a UI Engineer at Metafold you will:

  • Build a web application using bleeding edge technologies
  • Work closely with a team of mathematicians, developers & engineers
  • Communicate and document technical and architectural decisions

We offer:

  • Flexible work hours and a results-oriented work environment
  • Amazing opportunity for growth, being one of the first employees of a growing startup
  • Competitive salary and potential to participate in the employee equity plan following the completion of an initial probationary period

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Be a professional front end developer (TypeScript, SASS, React)
  • Be experienced with Next.js and Vercel deployment
  • Have successfully shipped at least one commercial product
  • Be up to date on bleeding edge web app development
  • Have a minimum of 3 years experience
  • Be able to work independently and take ownership of projects
  • Be interested in solving hard problems in web development (see for example Instantdb as inspiration)

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience with react-three-fiber
  • Experience with Web Assembly (WASM)
  • Experience in a startup environment
  • A portfolio of previous work that you can share

Location & Travel

This position is open to individuals who are eligible to work in Canada only. We are headquartered in Toronto and preference will be given to candidates in the Eastern time zone. We are a remote-first work environment, but will soon be opening a Toronto office for hybrid work possibilities.
