Position: Facilitator for Francophone schools
Type: part-time (10-15 hours/week)

EarthBites is a program offered to schools to help teach children about local food growth and nutrition through hands-on learning. EarthBites works closely with PACs, teachers and students, transforming their school garden space into outdoor classrooms that are fully utilized and integrated into the school curriculum. EarthBites is looking to hire a person for the role of Facilitator who is fluent in French. This position delivers francophone lessons to students in participating EarthBites schools and some evening and weekend workshops. We are looking for someone who enjoys sharing with children their knowledge of healthy whole foods and a sustainable food system. This means we're looking for someone who can:

  • Plan and deliver fun and age appropriate gardening and nutrition lessons to students in French,
  • Collaborate with other EarthBites team members to share ideas and to enhance and develop curriculum for the program overall and,
  • Work with children, volunteers, and school administration to ensure the program is carried out in an exciting, educational and safe manner.

As an EarthBites Facilitator for a francophone school you:

  • Are fluent in French and able to deliver a lesson in French
  • Know about sustainable food-producing practices and gardening.
  • Have the ability to engage children of various ages in an outdoor environment.
  • Have a strong interest in environmental issues, urban sustainability and food security
  • Enjoy both working in the garden getting your hands dirty, and sitting at a computer developing workshop materials.
  • Have a proven ability to teach children of varying ages
  • Have a strong interest in environmental issues, urban sustainability and food security
  • Are a team player and a decisive leader
  • Are creative and enjoy exploring new ideas
  • Can accommodate a flexible schedule
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills.
  • Have an interest in First Nations culture
  • Display reliability and punctuality

This is a part-time position (10-15 hours/week) and someone with a flexible schedule is needed (some months there may be more work than others). There is a potential for evening and weekend work. From time to time supplies and equipment may need to be transported so access to a vehicle is required.
