Position: Restoration Program Coordinator

Overview of Position

Forests Ontario’s restoration efforts support the planting of over three million trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants every year. With climate change as the defining challenge of our time, our commitment to increasing natural ecosystems and supporting local biodiversity is vital. Through our forest, grassland and wetland restoration programs, we are working to ensure our natural landscapes address these issues. Forests Ontario is currently expanding its restoration programs at the provincial and national scale and is seeking a Restoration Programs Coordinator to support this expansion.

The Restoration Programs Coordinator will support Forests Ontario’s full suite of restoration services and programs. They will be responsible for coordinating, maintaining, updating, entering and analyzing restoration and client data collected and entered via web-portal. The Coordinator will provide data analysis, results and reports in support of program development. They will support program outreach and communication, program implementation, and GIS management. The Coordinator will communicate on a regular basis with a large network of conservation professionals and should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with attention to detail.

Restoration Programs Coordinator duties:

Reporting to the Forestry Program Manager, roles and responsibilities include:

  • Restoration database coordination, maintenance and reviewing of data
  • Data entry, analysis and report generation
  • GIS mapping for restoration programs, and others as required
  • Support the development and update of web-based communications for restoration programs, website, blog postings and/or other sources of web-based communication as required
  • Assist in developing program outreach materials for restoration programs and services
  • Assist in content development and coordinate meetings, workshops, and seminars for staff, partners, clients, and the general public
  • Initial development of reports, program summaries and project overviews to partners, funders and clients
  • Responding to calls and inquiries related to restoration programs and general inquiries
  • Assessment and approval of restoration data input, reports and other program forms
  • Analyze data patterns to identify gaps, inefficiencies and areas for program and project growth
  • Assist with assembly and distribution of Agreements for all restoration programs and services
  • Assist in conducting and coordinating restoration programs site visits and survival assessments
  • Assist in creating site plans for potential restoration sites
  • Other duties as assigned

Candidates should have:

  • Experience or post-secondary degree in at least one of the following fields of study; Forestry, Grasslands, Wetlands, Restoration, Ecology, Biology, Botany, Conservation, Natural Resource Management, or other fields related to the job description and duties
  • Basic understanding of ArcGIS and experience is an asset
  • Comfortable addressing and presenting to groups of professionals, youth and the general public
  • Strong written and verbal communication skill, with experience in report writing
  • Experience with project/program coordination and documentation
  • Experience and intermediate knowledge of using Microsoft Office including Word, Excel (pivot, tables and formulas), and Outlook
  • Organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail
  • Possess the ability to work independently, prioritize deadlines and make informed decisions
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced and evolving work environment
  • Be a team player and work in a team environment – contributing to a positive and motivating workplace
  • Must have a valid Ontario Drivers licence, minimum G2 and a clean driving record
  • Experience or understanding with databases, data analysis, and report generation is an asset
  • Fluency in written and conversational French is considered a strong asset
  • Have an interest in, and commitment to, a healthy environment
