Overview of Position

Forests Ontario’s Education and Awareness efforts focus on telling the story of our forests and forestry as a whole. Through our, It Takes a Forest Campaign, community events, and exhibitor booths we are able to share the importance of our forests. Forests Ontario is currently expanding on the activities that engage with the public and private sector about the importance of our forests and is seeking an Outreach and Engagement Assistant to support this expansion. The Outreach and Engagement Assistant will support program outreach, stakeholder and network engagement and, implementation and research.

The Assistant will provide support and assist with the coordination of stakeholder and network outreach and engagement efforts. The Assistant will also be responsible for researching and developing program collateral and education activities, identifying and participating in workshops and events, engaging existing and new stakeholders and partners, and supporting report development and website information.

Outreach and Engagement Assistant duties:

  • Support the update and development of web-based communications including the It Takes a Forest website, blog posts and/or interactive infographics
  • Research forests and forestry statistics and messaging
  • Provide data analysis results in support of program development
  • Client and data entry and general administrative support
  • Assist in developing program outreach materials and opportunities
  • Support the development of project reports for partners and funders
  • Promote Forests Ontario programs at trade shows, festivals, workshops, seminars, community events, classrooms, etc
  • Other duties as assigned

Candidates should:

  • Be enrolled in a program associated with Forestry, Ecology, Biology, Botany, Conservation, Natural Resource Management or other related fields
  • Comfortable in delivering presentations, public speaking and stakeholder engagement and negotiations
  • Able to develop and nurture strong working relationships
  • Have organizational and time management skills
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills,
  • Possess the ability to work independently, prioritize deadlines and make informed decisions
  • Be willing to work in a fast-paced and evolving work environment
  • Be willing to work in a team environment – contributing to a positive and motivating workplace
  • Must have a valid Ontario Drivers licence, minimum G2 and a clean driving record
  • Have an interest in, and commitment to, a healthy environment

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must complete and receive Student Eligibility in the Eco Canada Co-Op Program,
  • Must be currently enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
