Position: Senior Fisheries Biologist (Vancouver)
Organization: Environmental Resources Management (ERM)
Location: Vancouver, British Columbia

ERM is seeking a high-performing and enthusiastic Senior Fisheries Biologist to work with our team in Vancouver, BC. The successful candidate will become a member and leader of our cohesive Fisheries Group in Canada. This person will interact within a multidisciplinary community of toxicologists, geochemists, hydrologists, freshwater and marine scientists, and wildlife biologists (among other disciplines) and will become a member of an extensive team of global environmental and social experts.

This role is designed for a motivated, career-minded person who enjoys working independently and seeks responsibility. This opportunity offers the chance to grow one's career by directly interacting with clients and regulators and mentoring junior staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead projects utilizing established experience with BC and Canadian regulations, standard mitigation measures, and EA/EIS processes.
  • Contribute to projects using prior experience with technical working groups, Regulatory, and First Nations in BC.
  • Promote fisheries services and Identify & develop new opportunities.
  • Provide Environmental Assessment expertise to various projects.
  • Interpret complex data using standard statistical methods.
  • Bring novel approaches to common problems to satisfy client and regulator expectations.
  • Build strong collaborative client relationships and provide an excellent client facing experience.
  • Perform senior level project delivery activities such as report writing, data collection and survey field work, data and literature review, and development of recommendations for clients.
  • Oversee multiple projects within client’s scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
  • Prepare technical proposals, including development of technical scopes and cost estimates, and participate in business development with existing clients and identified leads. Maintain client relationships to support repeat business.
  • Collaborate with other ERM practitioners in support of biological needs.
  • Mentor and supervise junior-level and mid-level consulting staff to develop their skill sets.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with other ERM employees.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. Degree related to Fish or Aquatic Sciences. Registered Professional Biologist preferred.
  • At least 15 years of related experience in the consulting industry.
  • Project experience in the mining sector, preferred.
  • Solid experience with Fisheries Act, offsetting plans, MMER.
  • Strong Client Base.
  • Expertise with Federal, Provincial and Territorial permitting, regulations, and guidelines.
  • People and project management skills.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Positive attitude; excellent writing, communication, and time management skills; problem solver who enjoys working independently.
  • Business development and project management skills.
  • Located or willing to relocate to Vancouver, BC.

Beneficial Assets:

  • Project experience in a diversity of sectors, including mining and power.
  • Experience working with engineers and other subject experts.
  • Experience in budgeting and project management.
  • Interest in expanding the group and services.
