FIELD STATION JOB POSTING

Position: Station Coordinator
Type: full-time, one year minimum
Organization: Salmon Coast Field Station
Location: Echo Bay, BC (accommodation included)

Salmon Coast Field Station, a non-profit organization, is a facility for coastal conservation research. Salmon Coast is seeking a Station Coordinator who will live onsite at our field station in the remote community of Echo Bay, BC.

This is a dynamic position with responsibilities that fluctuate throughout the year. Salmon Coast is open to the role being shared by one or more individuals.

Contract Start Date: Flexible, as early as September 1, 2018

Contract duration: One year minimum

Pay & Benefits: $30K-$50K/yr, depending on experience, plus in-kind provision of accommodations and utilities in a private cabin (power, heat, internet, cell service, propane), moorage, and generous holiday leave

Duties & Responsibilities

The station coordinator(s), under the supervision of the Board of Directors, will work independently as well as by coordinating volunteers, contractors, users, and staff to fulfill the following responsibilities:

  • Maintenance of station facilities, including boats, dock, outbuildings, utilities, grounds, equipment, and gardens

  • Administrative duties including bookkeeping, financial reporting, invoicing and liaising with external accountant

  • Fundraising duties, including leading donor cultivation tours, delivering presentations, preparing fundraising appeals, issuing receipts and thank you’s, identifying, writing and reporting on grants, seeking corporate support, coordinating special campaigns (crowdfunding, etc), maintaining donor database and developing other revenue streams   

  • Facilitation and support of research and education user groups, including scheduling and coordination, field work troubleshooting, and development and delivery of basic ecology curriculum for education groups

  • Outreach and communication, including website updates, social media, development of print materials (newsletters and brochures), leading tours, and community relations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of coastal BC and its conservation issues

  • Interest in supporting conservation-oriented education and research

  • Experience working in biological fieldwork and environmental NGO settings

  • Experience with fundraising, project management, and financial reporting

  • Handy person skills, experience with construction and chainsaw work

  • Experience or interest in alternative energy (solar and microhydro)

  • Marine/wilderness experience and certifications (SVOP, ROC –M, Wilderness First Aid)

  • Comfortable living in a remote area with minimal access to urban services
