Position: Executive Director
Organization: Capital Region Food Share Network Society
Location: Victoria, BC

The Food Share Network (FSN) is an innovative umbrella that enhances food security in the Capital Region through collaboration and cooperation among food banks, community centres, Indigenous organizations, schools, donors and other community organizations. Participating organizations share the common values of empowerment, dignity and respect, food and community, stewardship, and collective impact.

We are currently seeking an Executive Director to lead this newly-formed Society. Reporting to the Board of Directors, this innovative and professional leader will steward the organization’s growth and development. The Executive Director is responsible for steering the strategic direction of the FSN, while maintaining and developing diverse collaborative relationships and ensuring the financial health of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

Actualize the strategic goals of the organization:

1. Active networking of the agencies and sharing resources/experiences on a regular basis (especially during crisis/COVID), and actively sharing what FSN does and how everyone works together.
2. Utilize the voices of end users in programming and ensuring dignity of access.
3. Food literacy opportunities – develop, coordinate, and promote food literacy in the Capital Region.
4. Educate and advocate for system change (i.e. income solutions to food insecurity)
5. Examine and expand relationships between the Good Food Network, FSN and farms, industry and community gardens to support food security in the region.

Financial and Administrative Management

1. Secure funding and manage FSN finances in a manner that is consistent with the strategic directions and the values of the organization.
2. Ensure sound and effective financial, human resources, and operation practices and policies are in place.
3. Pursue charitable status for the organization.

Communications

1. Articulate and broadly communicate the objectives of the FSN, including the FSN’s relationship with the Food Rescue Project, Give Food Get Food, and other initiatives spearheaded by the FSN.
2. Connect and communicate with all agencies participating in the FSN e.g. get to know the staff and organizations involved and keep your ‘ear to the ground’.

Skills and Qualifications

• Leadership: mobilize, inspire, and support achievement and critical reflection towards the FSN’s vision.
• Organizational Development: support strategic plans to advance organization’s goals; develop and refine systems to improve impact and efficiency.
• Strategic Vision: ability to navigate complex environments and direct organizational work strategically.
• Communications: clear, direct, professional communicator with ability to adapt communication to audience. Strong technical literacy.
• Adaptability: able to be flexible, versatile and/or tolerant in a changing work environment while remaining effective and efficient.
• Problem Solving: Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.
• Passionate: demonstrates passion for, and commitment to, food security and food justice.
• Relevant experience and/or education.

Position Details

Salary: $30/hour, 28 hours/week

One-year contract with opportunity to extend based on funding availability

Location: 833 Yates Street, Victoria, BC. Able to work remotely
