Position: Executive Director
Organization: ACER (Association for Canadian Educational Resources) aka Climate's Sake
Location: prefer southern Ontario but flexible
Hours: Full time
Trees are vitally important for life on Earth. Trees not only produce oxygen and sequester carbon dioxide, but they are responsible for calming us, cooling us, retaining our soil, cleaning our air, providing fibre and wood for our buildings and much more. Healthy trees are vital in the effort to reduce the impacts of climate change.
ACER was formed more than 20 years ago in response to a need to bring a citizen science focus to understanding the health of forests large and small in Southern Ontario.
In pursuit of its mission, ACER has successfully put in place programs for planting and measuring trees that span schoolyards, private and conservation authority lands. An army of Citizen Scientists has been recruited and mobilized, ranging in age from 9 to 90, from all walks of life, to engage in ACER activities.
The Board is committed to selecting a new leader who can take over from the founder, bring energy and insight, raise the profile of a science-based endeavour and take on the challenge of engaging the next generation around the importance of knowing and stewarding our (largely urban) forests under the demands of a changing climate.
We are looking for a person who is willing to take on running a small environmental not-for profit, grow its outreach and profile, modernize its communications and work with a diverse board. You likely define yourself as a social entrepreneur with a Master’s degree or equivalent in environmental studies/environmental science/forestry/geography, who has excellent project management and people skills.
