Position: Intermediate to Senior Environmental Scientist / Technician
Organization: Gen7 Environmental Solutions Ltd.
Location: Drayton Valley, Alberta

Starting: Upon availability, position open until suitable candidate found

Reporting to: Ryan Radchenko, President,

Job Status: Full-time employee;

  • Nominal 44 hrs / week average … 8.8 work hrs / day
  • Generally Monday-Fridays approx. 7:30 am – 5:30 pm
  • Some weekends required, some late days required esp. in field season

Weekly hours may vary subject to project schedule and emergency client requests. Work includes emergency response to spills; “rush order” environmental services; and widely varying weather and field conditions which may create challenges for offering predictable schedules. Reasonable flexibility will be required. GEN7 is committed to providing work life balance, and to limiting the amount of long distance project work requiring out-of-town overnight trips.

Compensation:

Negotiable and competitive: Pay is commensurate with formal credentials, demonstrated skills, and applicable industry experience;

Paid holidays: starting at 3 to 4 weeks / year commensurate with experience;

Stat holidays: off with pay, unless a negotiated workday for time in lieu;

Overtime: Employee’s Option of Time in Lieu or Overtime pay;

Job Description:

We are looking for a hard working, ambitious individual to join our team. We are interested in a range of experience, interests and education levels; however, we have listed some ideal expertise and experience in a candidate. One person is not expected to be proficient in all of these areas – we are a growing company with lots of opportunity in many different disciplines. The work must be based out of Drayton Valley, Alberta.

Environmental Science and Technical Work

  • Completion of Phase 1 and Phase 2 environmental site assessments (field work and reporting);
  • Field implementation of remediation action plans and assigned field work effectively;
  • Contribute to development of project recommendations and client options or solutions (in a team environment) for clean-up and reclamation plans;
  • Conduct and supervise field work during: spill response, ground disturbance, site assessment, remediation, oilfield waste and drilling waste management, reclamation;
  • Conduct water and soil sampling for laboratory testing, and field screening as required
  • Contribute to interpretation and reporting of water and soil analysis;
  • Contribute to development of remediation action plans and site reclamation plans;
  • Conduct GIS data logging and site mapping and prepare GIS field files;
  • Prepare report figures, tables, and client reports; and
  • other client specific services

Biological and Wildlife Science Work

Work with Gen7’s Senior Biologist to:

  • Undertake field assessments to inventory and characterize soils, vegetation and wildlife;
    • conduct bird and wildlife surveys;
    • conduct plant assessments;
    • soil profiling and classifications;
  • maintain and file field notes;
  • draft reports and supporting documentation for wildlife sweeps, pre-site assessments, vegetation assessments and related client materials;
  • draft or prepare reports of wildlife mitigation and monitoring plans for construction of oil and gas facilities, remediation projects, or other disturbances; and
  • development of reclamation plans and post reclamation monitoring and assessment

General

  • Provide excellent customer service and foster strong positive client relationships;
  • Support corporate marketing and business development;
  • Support corporate safety program and ensure a safe workplace; and
  • Contribute to excellent working environment, high staff morale and comradery, a sharing and continuous learning culture, and sense of fun.

Qualifications:

  • Range of academic credentials would be of interest, including a Bachelors or Masters Degree in a directly related environmental field; potentially with professional designation status (or near achieving such status). A strong candidate with a relevant technical diploma and excellent experience in oilfield and/or municipal environmental service would be seriously considered.
  • Preferably minimum of four years of technical field experience in key areas of the job description;
  • Preferably minimum of two years of relevant project field management and field supervision experience in the oilfield and/or municipal environmental services industry;
  • Strong field documentation skills and demonstrated capacity to interpret data and write clear and accurate material for client reports;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and proven team player;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Excel, Word, and email management;
  • Familiarity with field GPS mapping and input/output files, graphics software, and ArcGIS or similar software for production of report materials;
  • Clean driver’s abstract and all safety tickets (including First Aid, H2S, WHIMS, TDG, Ground Disturbance)
