Position: Environmental Outreach & Science Communication Intern
Organization: Junction Creek Stewardship Committee
Location: Sudbury, Ontario

Term: 12 months starting May 2020, pending funding
Remuneration: $19/hr, 35hr/week

Job Description:

The Junction Creek Stewardship Committee is seeking an organized, reliable, and hardworking individual to coordinate outreach and educational activities while facilitating research, monitoring, and stewardship projects in the Junction Creek watershed. The Environmental Outreach & Science Communication Intern will work under the direction of the Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop and deliver educational materials, activities and programs while facilitating data management and citizen stewardship projects in the Junction Creek watershed.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • University or college graduate who has graduated within the last 3 years from an accredited college or university.
  • The candidate must be a graduate of a post-secondary degree or diploma.
  • The position must be a first full-time employment in the candidate’s field of study.
  • Candidates are only eligible to participate in the NOFHC internship program one time.
  • Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada.


  • Interpret scientific research to develop and deliver educational material for community groups, local schools, the general public, and other stakeholders
  • Encourage and promote community involvement through collaborative efforts with local schools, summer camps, and naturalist groups/clubs
  • Participate in environmental outreach programs, and events/festivals to educate the public
  • Assist in maintaining social media accounts, draft newsletter articles and media releases, and perform website updates as necessary
  • Assist with data collection, entry, and management, and participate in restoration activities as required
  • Assist with administrative tasks, grant proposals, research report, and fundraisers as required.

Qualifications and skills:

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in Science Communication, Environmental Restoration/Monitoring, Fish and Wildlife Technician, Biology, Education, or other related fields
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
  • Able to work occasional weekends and week day evenings
  • Valid Class G Driver’s Licence with clean driving record
  • Police check required
  • Bilingual, with oral and written fluency in French an asset but not necessary
  • First Aid and CPR training an asset
