Position: Green Living Coordinator
Organization: Boreal Centre for Sustainability
Location: Moberly Lake, near Chetwynd BC (accom. arrangements possible)
Hours: up to 8 weeks or longer, min 20 hrs per week

Are you passionate about the field of community sustainability in northern rural areas? The Boreal Centre for Sustainability in partnership with InterraPlan Inc of Moberly Lake is looking for support on a seasonal support basis 

As Green Living Coordinator, your tasks and responsibilities will be to:

  • support existing community sustainability initiatives in food security, eco-health restoration and cultural-tourism through research, public outreach and demonstration projects
  • investigate & organize green business training support needs for “eco-enterprise” development
  • update the Peace River South “Eco-Enterprise Directory”
  • develop resource materials (written, photographic and video)
  • deliver presentations to community and interest groups
  • help establish or maintain demonstration sites for community gardening, permaculture & eco-interpretive trails
  • developing new partnerships, and memberships for growing the organization
  • support fund-raising with proposal writing research or applications
  • helping organize a community workshop on local sustainability action (energy, water, food security)

Job Requirements: The successful candidate will:

  • have strong interest in environmental planning, education and sustainable community development
  • ability to do independent research through consultations, on-line research, literature reviews
  • proven communications skills for doing public outreach to support volunteer & public participation
  • experience in WEB-site development and updating, social media and analytics (
  • adhere to organization staff policies and procedures;
  • follow office and field emergency procedures, and aware of Worksafe guidelines
  • be familiar with safe use of all field equipment for (GPS, garden implements, brush cutters)
  • have their own vehicle in safe & reliable condition for compensated local/regional travel

Preferred education level

  • Post-secondary education preferred in the field of environmental planning, resource management, agriculture, botany or sustainability studies.
  • Familiarity with online tools for Web site development, social media marketing and graphics 
  • Experience in public outreach and involvement in one or more of the BCS areas of interest in food security and integrated community development
  • Interest, understanding and practice with permaculture design preferred

Hours:  20 -30 hrs/wk (6-8 weeks), iincl some evgs & weekends

Office Location: Moberly Lake with provision for some home-based office research.

Wage: $18-$22/hr depending on experience with option to work in either subcontract or employment role; onsite accommodation options available
