Position: Senior Environmental Educator
Organization: Vancouver Botanical Gardens Association
Location: Vancouver, BC

Vancouver Botanical Gardens Association (VBGA), joint operating partner of VanDusen Botanical Garden and Bloedel Conservatory with the Vancouver Park Board, is seeking a Senior Environmental Educator to further our mission to engage people in the importance of biodiversity to our lives, and to foster a lifelong love of plants and gardens.

Position Overview

Working with the Youth Programs Manager, the Senior Environmental Educator will assist to coordinate and run Field Trip programs at VanDusen Botanical Garden including self-guided programs, 90-minute guided programs, 45-minute guided programs, and our Field Trip Festival Pollinator Days.

The Senior Environmental Educator will also assist with VBGA Camp Programs and other tasks as needed within the Youth Programs portfolio of the Education Department.

  • Assist to coordinate aspects of the guided and self-guided field trip programs and teacher communications
  • Lead educational programs for a diverse audience including youth and adults
  • Provide support for the annual Teachers’ Open House event and the Pollinator Days Field Trip Festival
  • Manage bursary programs that provide transportation to visiting schools
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate new educational programs and resources
  • Facilitate VBGA Nature Camps for Pro-D Days, Spring Break, and Summer
  • Participate in VBGA educational events and other organization events

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Post-secondary education in ecology, biology, education, or a related field
  • Experience working with groups of children, preferably educating children on nature related topics
  • Comfortable with public speaking to diverse audiences
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather, leading energetic activities
  • Exemplary customer service skills in person, electronically, and on the phone
  • Dedication to environmental awareness and sustainable living
  • Current certification in Standard First Aid & recent Criminal Records Check (or willingness to obtain)


  • 17.5 hours per week, weekday availability required, weekly schedule to be discussed
  • Start date February 2022
  • End Date December 31st 2022 with possibility of extension dependent on funding


$21.00/hr + 4% in lieu of vacation
