Position: Environmental Programs Coordinator
Organization: Earthwise Society
Location: Delta, Metro Vancouver / Lower Mainland BC

Earthwise Society is a community based charitable organization operating a one-acre ecological demonstration garden and organic teaching farm in Tsawwassen BC. We have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Programs Coordinator to implement community programs related to sustainable food systems and landscape practices. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Environmental Programs Coordinator will:


  • As part of a team, develop a plan for community engagement and education related to sustainable landscape practices and food security for delivery at the Earthwise Garden
  • Deliver environmental education workshops for adults and children, including school groups, at the Earthwise Garden and Teaching Farm
  • Coordinate garden volunteers to ensure engagement and retention, act as main point of contact, assign tasks and provide training , lead volunteer teams in gardening activities
  • Assist with the maintenance of the Earthwise Garden as a venue for educational programming to ensure that plantings are healthy and that the space is welcoming and attractive to garden visits
  • Implement food production plans at the Demonstration Food Garden including assisting from planting to harvesting
  • Coordinate on-site marketing initiatives including farm cart, CSA, and plant sales
  • Assist with delivery of food security programs, including Harvest Box
  • Monitor watering systems to ensure all plants are receiving water required to maintain healthy growth
  • Lead staff and volunteers in organic soil management activities on site to ensure that organic waste is property composted
  • Oversee implementation and maintenance of demonstration garden projects in the community, including Don’t Mow Grow program
  • Assist with special events and community outreach activities related to gardening and sustainable land use
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Post-secondary education in an environmental field or horticulture, and/or complementary related experience
  • Knowledge of sustainable land use practices, including composting and organic growing
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; experience with community outreach or environmental education an asset
  • Be self-motivated, flexible, and work well independently and in a team environment
  • Be physically fit and enjoy working outside in all kinds of weather
  • Proven ability in working effectively with volunteers and/or co-workers

TERMS This is a full time, seasonal position 35 hours per week from August 15 through November 15, 2022, at the Earthwise Garden in Tsawwassen. Weekend work will be required. The rate of pay is $20/hour. There may be an opportunity to extend this position.
