Ontario EcoSchools is seeking temporary staff to join our team! Assessors will review certification applications, conduct school visits, and celebrate with schools certifying in the Ontario EcoSchools program.

Regional Assignments: Barrie/Bruce Peninsula, Brantford, Cornwall, Durham, Guelph, Halton, Hamilton, Kingston, London, Niagara, Ottawa, Peel, Sault Ste Marie, Sudbury, Toronto, Waterloo, Windsor, York.

Background on Ontario EcoSchools and the certification program

Ontario EcoSchools is an environmental education and certification program for grades K-12 that helps school communities develop both ecological literacy and environmental practices to become environmentally responsible citizens and reduce the ecological footprint of schools.

The certification component of the program gives schools an opportunity to evaluate and celebrate their environmental achievements throughout the year. To become certified, a school must demonstrate achievement in 6 key areas: Teamwork and Leadership, Energy Conservation, Waste Minimization, School Ground Greening, Curriculum, and Environmental Stewardship. Responsibilities of Assessors

  • Act as a positive ambassador for Ontario EcoSchools during school visits and assessments
  • Attend 4 day paid training session in Toronto (April 30, 2018 - May 3, 2018)
  • Assess certification applications and provide detailed written feedback
  • Conduct school visits to elementary and secondary schools, usually accompanied by school board staff
  • Report on visits and applications including statistics, school questions, and best practices
  • Assist with logistics or other certification-related tasks as required
  • Daily regional travel is required. Some overnight travel may be necessary


  • B. Ed. or equivalent experience with an interest in Environmental Education
  • Excellent writing and data management skills including basic proficiency in Word and Excel
  • Experience and proficiency in assessment and evaluation
  • Excellent organizational skills, especially time management
  • Professional, punctual, and detail-oriented
  • Access to a computer/laptop with internet connection and the ability to work from home
  • Driver’s license (eligible mileage will be reimbursed)
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • French language skills are a strong asset
  • Must be able to commit to full time employment from April 30 - May 25, 2018 (with possibility of contract extension into mid June)


  • $165/day + 4% vacation pay; 8 hours per day; start/finish time will vary per day (no benefits).
