Position: Senior Environmental Consultant (Smithers)
Organization: Environmental Resources Management (ERM)
Location: Smithers, British Columbia

ERM is seeking an outstanding professional to join our Smithers, BC office as a Senior Environmental Consultant to support our Mining team. The role requires operational experience in the mining sector with some exposure to environmental effects analysis, and an interest in applying knowledge and skills to solve complex challenges within the mining sector. This posting has tremendous potential for career growth with the successful candidate having opportunities to directly interact with clients and regulators, and participate in business development. The successful candidate will be a member of a larger project management team, will interact with a multidisciplinary team and will become a member of an extensive team of global environmental and social experts.

This posting is designed for a motivated, career-minded person who enjoys problem solving and working within a multi-stakeholder environment.


  • Support preparation of Environmental Assessments/Environmental Impact Statements and associated management plans.
  • Manage projects from the proposal phase to report completion.
  • Perform project delivery activities such as report writing, data collection and survey field work, data and literature review.
  • Support preparation of proposals, including development of scopes and cost estimates, and participate in business development with existing clients and identified leads.
  • Work with multiple projects within client’s scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
  • Mentor junior level consulting staff to develop their skill sets.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with other ERM employees worldwide.


  • Bachelor degree in Sciences, Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years of consulting experience
  • Understanding of mining and mining-related environmental effects
  • Prior experience in environmental consulting or government and the mining and oil and gas sectors are considered assets.
  • Expertise with Federal, Provincial and Territorial regulations and guidelines.
  • Environmental Assessment experience.
  • Ability to follow directions and take initiative when required.
  • Excellent communication, accounting and organization skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and project management approaches.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a demanding work environment.
