Position: Environmental and Social Justice Communications and Resource Development Assistant

Be The Change Earth Alliance is launching a new Climate Action initiative, bringing empowering eco-social education to students and teachers throughout BC.

About the Organization...

Be The Change Earth Alliance (BTCEA) is an agile, creative and amazingly productive charitable organization, founded in 2005 with a mission to support global sustainability through education that empowers personal and collective change. We have engaging programs for adults in community and workplace as well as for students in middle and secondary schools. Our ‘Student Leadership for Change’ (SLC) learning resources have been developed collaboratively with teachers and used in hundreds of classrooms throughout Metro Vancouver. We support SLC by providing assemblies and education-in-action workshops for students and Professional Development workshops for teachers. The SLC holistic approach covers a full spectrum of ways participants can ‘be the change’ to address global issues, from individual, school and community actions to political advocacy.

About the Role

The Communications and Resource Development Assistant will work collaboratively with other staff to promote and market Be The Change’s educational program, build and maintain key relationships, and research and pursue sources of funding. Responsibilities will include: developing online and print promotional material; maintaining email communication with key networks, including via newsletter; liaising with relevant stakeholders including teachers, partners, supporters and grantors; designing and executing fundraising campaigns; researching grants and other funding opportunities; planning, writing and editing grant applications; and creating and reviewing budgets.

The Communications and Resource Development Assistant will also work with the team on the ongoing development and delivery of Be The Change’s educational programs for youth and adults, including creating enviro-social educational materials; designing and delivering workshops and assemblies; and managing web platforms.


  • Post-Secondary degree – please submit a transcript with application
  • Under 30 required – our focus is youth empowerment!
  • Canadian, landed immigrant or refugee (funding program requirement)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Passionate about environmental and social justice


  • Experience in writing proposals or grants
  • Experience with marketing, promotional emails, newsletters, social media
  • Self-motivated, creative, positive, with a ‘can-do’ willingness to learn
  • Kind, empowering, glad-to-help others team player
  • Organized, grounded, with strong time-management skills to set deadlines
  • Able to develop systems and processes to execute plans and track results
  • Aptitude and experience in strategic and conceptual thinking
  • Tech-savvy with creative flair for computer software, video editing or digital graphics
  • Comfortable speaking and facilitating workshops as needed
  • Confident with budgets
