Position: Intermediate Biologist
Company: Setetkwe Environmental Inc.
Location: preferably Kamloops, Barriere or Clearwater, BC (see below)

Located in the North Thompson Valley, our Aboriginal-Owned company offers environmental monitoring, invasive plant control, and hydroseeding services. Our clients include local and provincial government, Simpcw Resources LLP, and Trans Mountain Pipeline. We are looking to grow our capacity and experience with the goal of becoming a major contractor and competing for work in both the public and private sectors.

Job Description

Setetkwe Environmental Inc. is currently looking for an Intermediate Biologist to join the company’s team. The Intermediate Biologist will plan, participate in and, where qualified, lead various environmental field survey and study programs.

Preference will be given to candidates with field experience in one or a combination of the following discipline categories:

  • Fisheries and aquatics (e.g., fish counts, fish salvage, WQ monitoring, watercourse surveys, wetland function assessments, riparian function assessments)
  • Terrestrial wildlife and birds (e.g., breeding bird nesting surveys, call-playback surveys, raptor surveys, wildlife and species at risk surveys, amphibian and reptile salvage, amphibian breeding pond surveys, caribou habitat restoration and monitoring surveys)
  • Vegetation and reclamation (e.g., terrestrial ecosystem surveys, rare plant, and ecological community surveys, weed surveys, invasive plant control, reclamation, and post-construction environmental monitoring)

In addition, the successful applicant may be required to participate in office-based duties associated with their role including environmental permit applications, study scope and planning, coordinating field personnel and equipment needs, and preparation of technical data reports.

Location Details

This position can be based out of any community within the Thompson Valley, although preference may be given to candidates who live in Kamloops, Barriere or Clearwater. The successful candidate will be required to travel throughout the interior of BC, and possibly Alberta, depending on current project needs.


  • Implement the planning and execution of baseline terrestrial and aquatic surveys, as well as other environmental study work plans, in accordance with applicable data collection methodologies and best management practices;
  • Provide resource specialist expertise and services during project construction, including mitigation planning and implementation, environment monitoring and inspection, breeding bird nest sweeps, amphibian salvage, fish salvage etc;
  • Analyze, evaluate and interpret data while providing results within the scope and objective(s) of the specific project;
  • Be familiar with federal, provincial, and regional legislation and policies relating to aquatic and terrestrial environments;
  • Advise construction crews on environmental mitigation, regulatory requirements and best management practices;
  • Coordinate and liaise with clients, regulators, and contractors, as well as partner company environment professionals, to identify and define requirements, study scopes and objectives;
  • Mentor junior biologists and environment technicians in program execution;
  • Prepare and review survey forms, daily summary reports and technical data reports;
  • Provide expert input into various private and public proposals and applications; and
  • Monitor field program progress and handle any issues that arise.


  • 3-5 or more years related experience as a Biologist In Training or Registered Professional Biologist in BC
  • Possess a B.Sc. or technical diploma in Natural Resource Science, Biology, Forestry, Agriculture, Environmental science, or related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with technical report writing and data collection/organisation.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge and user experience in GIS applications.
  • Solid organizational and time-management skills.
  • Class 5 driver’s license with a clean drivers’ abstract.

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Note: Pre-Employment, pre-project and post-incident Drug and Alcohol Testing may be required
