Employment Opportunity: Environmental Biologist

Term: 8 – 24 weeks, summer youth position (dependent upon external funding)
Remuneration: $15-$17/hr, 25-35hr/week

Job Description:

The Junction Creek Stewardship Committee is seeking an enthusiastic, reliable, and self-motivated individual to assist with the development and delivery of environmental stewardship activities along Junction Creek. The Environmental Biologist will work with the Junction Creek Stewardship Team under the supervision of the Project Coordinator to assist with carrying out environmental research and watershed stewardship activities within the Junction Creek watershed throughout Greater Sudbury.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Candidates must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
• Candidates must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (international students are not eligible).
• Candidates must be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Assisting with field work, site assessment, monitoring, data collection and entry.
• Assisting with organizing, planning, and implementation of existing and new watershed stewardship projects in the Junction Creek ecosystem.
• Planning, organizing, and managing daily assigned work.
• Assisting in coordinating volunteers.
• Assisting with community engagement and outreach, as needed.

Qualifications and skills:

• Field of study related to ecosystem restoration, biology, natural resources, or fish and wildlife
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Attention to detail and superior organizational skills
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.)
• Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
• Able to work occasional weekends and weekday evenings
• Bilingual, with oral and written fluency in French an asset but not necessary
• Valid Class G Driver’s Licence with clean driving record an asset
• First Aid and CPR training an asset
