Position: Intern – Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation

OCCIAR/MIRARCO

The Ontario Centre for Climate Impacts and Adaptation Resources (OCCIAR), at MIRARCO/Laurentian University in Sudbury is currently accepting applications for a full-time intern. The contract will be one year in length, and may lead to a permanent position. The position is based in Sudbury.

Job Description:

The Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Intern will conduct research and provide project support to the climate change impacts and adaptation division at MIRARCO.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct research and provide support for ongoing projects;
  • Assist in completion of projects and delivery of quality reports and/or publications, on time, with the resources of the Centre;
  • Assist in the preparation of new resources material to aid in climate change adaptation awareness in Ontario;
  • Build and maintain high levels of knowledge on local, national, and global issues pertaining to climate change adaptation;
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations for other team members; and
  • Contribute to administrative tasks within the climate change adaptation division.

Required Education, Skills, and Experience

  • University and college graduates who have graduated within the last three (3) years from an accredited college or university in a related field.
  • Candidates must be graduates of post-secondary degree or diploma programs.
  • The position will be a first time employment in the candidate's field of study.
  • Candidates have not previously participated in the NOHFC internship program (Candidates are only eligible to participate in the NOHFC internship program one time).
  • Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of climate change impacts and adaptation, climate models and data, statistics.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to be flexible and the ability to adapt to changing responsibilities while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Dedicated to meeting or exceeding expectations.
  • Proven time-management, organization/prioritization skills to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to synthesize information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Extensive experience with Word, Excel, Power Point and e-mail applications.

Education

University degree in Environmental Studies, Climate Change Studies, or a related field.

Salary:

This full-time position is partially funded by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation through the Northern Ontario Internship Program.
