ENGINEERING SUMMER JOBS

Position: Engineering Summer Student
Type: age 30 & under / summer
Company: Solar Ship Inc.
Location: Hybrid; most work online but some in-person when needed in Brantford or Toronto, Ontario

Solar Ship Inc. is urgently seeking to employ 6 engineering students as apprentices who will learn from veteran engineers in the manufacturing process as they convert airship designs into vehicles that will participate in a race demonstration in August 2022.They will realize the designs from the competition in a practical application of computer vision for conservation.

Upon completion of this 16-week program, we anticipate the following results:

• 6 youth from STEM-related university programs will report increased confidence in their ability to positively impact nature conservation.
• The production of two solar powered aircraft.
• The demonstration of these aircraft for use in large landscape aerial monitoring for biodiversity conservation. The Tsorocopter provides aerial superiority at higher speeds and low operating costs than current systems in a threatened environment. Aerial superiority means the system can react to threats faster than the threat can attack and spread.
• Acquisition of a baseline data set pertaining to a natural landscape in Southwest Ontario. The baseline data for objects and patterns in a protected area enables the managers to measure changes and diagnose problems. Increasing the precision of diagnostics creates the ability to share data with experts around the world who can share solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Ability to understand and use computer-aided design software.
• Experience with AutoCAD or other computer-aided design software.
• Ability to utilize Microsoft Office applications and the Internet.
• Ability to work with others in a team environment.
• Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures.
• Ability to use various measuring instruments.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Applicants must be Canadian and enrolled in an undergrad Engineering program.
