Position: Junior Teacher (Grades 3-5)
Organization: North 44 Academy (Guelph Outdoor Preschool)
Location: Orchard Park, Ignatius Jesuit Centre, Hwy ON-6, Guelph, Ontario
Start Date: December 2020

Option of training or supply work October–December to understand the inner workings of our school.

Duration: 5 days a week until June 2021

Compensation: Based on experience.

About North 44° Academy:

We are the continuation of Guelph Outdoor Preschool and have expanded into the primary/junior grades (North 44° Academy). Many of the children who currently attend North 44° Academy have grown up going to Guelph Outdoor Preschool. These children have a genuine love for the natural world around them and have a passion for learning.

We use our outdoor classroom daily, as much as possible—600 beautiful acres at Ignatius Jesuit Centre. Our goal is to help the children fall in love with learning and reach their full potential. To bring the curriculum to life we use experiential, inquiry-based, mastery learning and traditional evidence-based practices to help children achieve their academic goals. Being outside daily allows the children to develop an informed and compassionate connection with the environment around them. Position Summary:

We are looking for a junior teacher to join our team. We are looking for a high-energy teacher that can provide authentic opportunities to a small group of junior students. The class will be mixed-age, composing of students in grade 3,4, and 5. They must have an enthusiasm for the outdoors. They must be able to maintain a balance of teaching core skills and providing real-life opportunities for the children to explore and consolidate these skills. Good communication, and strong organizational skills are key.

They must be passionate and be able to develop strong rapport with students.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Ontario College of Teachers Qualification (OCT) (Junior/Intermediate qualifications preferred)
  • Up to date Police Vulnerable Sectors Check
  • Up to date Standard First Aid and CPR-C or higher
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working with children
  • Outdoor/environmentalist/naturalist experience is preferred
