Hiring: EVP Volunteer and Site Coordinator
Organization: ELIE & the Elephant Valley Project

Elephant Livelihood Initiative Environment (E.L.I.E.) is a registered local non-government organization based in Mondulkiri, Cambodia. DESCRIPTION

We are currently looking to fill the position of Volunteer & Site Coordinator, to help oversee the site activities, coordinate the daily schedules, manage volunteers work tasks and be the onsite contact point for the visitors and volunteers. Basically organising who is who, where they are going and what they are doing to develop this amazing project.

EVP is a constantly evolving site and we need many hands to keep the sanctuary going for the elephants. We have short term visitors, longer stay volunteers, groups, interns and more. All guests also contribute their time volunteering as part of their stay to help out on the site. Together with local staff, we are always working on projects which include: farming elephant food, small construction (eg. Trails, fences and bridges), nursery and reforestation projects, routine maintenance, running additional courses onsite and more.

The work will be based primarily at the EVP, 12km from the town of Sen Monorom, with all positions working 5 and ½ days per week – Sun afternoon to Friday afternoon. This position is also required to stay onsite with the volunteers, with weekends in town. The Project Manager will also help cover some nights on rotation. Meals and accommodation will be provided when working onsite.

You will receive a local salary, of $500 per month, which is more than enough to cover your living expenses while here. An initial commitment of 18 months is required or longer for the right person.

We are looking for someone to asap so we can have handover time with the current coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meet and greet visitors & help with morning check in’s
  • Develop and plan weekly tasks with the Project Manager and local staff, then manage volunteer work schedules.
  • Work on projects with the volunteers during the day, together with local staff
  • Be the onsite contact person for visitors, helping if they are sick or have problems
  • Engage visitors during meals and night time activities
  • Onsite living and night on-call duties, weekends in town
  • Organise common areas and souvenirs areas and stock
  • Other duties as required, including sometimes covering other staff e.g. taking visitors to the elephants experiences and weekly elephant health checks.

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Experience managing groups of people
  • Strong communication skills, as our visitors are all ages and come from all over the world
  • Interest in sustainable development and conservation
  • Desire to learn new language and ability to work with local non-English speaking staff
  • Current first aid certificate (preferably field First aid/rescue situations)
  • Current driving License (manual trans)
  • You will need to be a bubbly, outgoing and resourceful person who is ready to get their hands dirty
  • Background in outdoor education/farm management/ permaculture or other conservation experience
  • Basic knowledge of conservation and a keen interest in wildlife essential

Preferable

  • We envisage this position to be for someone that has a strong interest in ecotourism, community development and conservation, who wants a start in an organization working overseas in this field.
