We currently have one (or possibly two positions) available for a healthy, PHYSICALLY FIT person who is ambitious and who would enjoy living and working with us in our diverse business starting in August or September and possibly on into winter.  Minimum stay is 6-8 weeks, preferrably 12 weeks.

General Benefits

To live and work in the Arctic is a wonderful adventure and for many has been an experience of a lifetime. Staff will have the chance to immerse themselves into our natural surroundings where nature is beautiful and wild and where you can experience the varied seasons of the Arctic year. Our staff also have opportunities to participate in some of our personal adventures that may include hiking trips and travel to other Arctic communities. We have beautiful walking trails and canoeing opportunities right from the property which can be enjoyed in the evenings or on days off which are usually on Saturdays.  We will do all we can to ensure that you get a wonderful Arctric experience at our place.

We provide free staff housing, usually in a private staff room furnished with towels and bedding. All rooms have an oil heater and some rooms have running water, but most do not. We provide a Bath House with showers, flush toilets and sinks for staff use. Also a laundry facility is available to staff.

Staff members are taken to town once a week to purchase groceries which they prepare and cook for themselves in the staff kitchen stocked with dishes and cookware.  We provide free groceries to all of our volunteer staff.

Staff also receive unlimited high-speed wireless internet at no additional cost, although it is not meant for entertainment.

Free Return Flight

We will offer a free flight south with Air Canada or one of their connectors, using our air miles, in exchange for a minimum 12-week stay when the work term is satisfactorily completed.

As we live in a natural environment close to nature, we would like to find staff who love the out-of-doors and have a healthy natural-looking physical appearance. To meet our conservative standards, employees should practice good hygiene and be clean, neat and tidy, non-smoking, non-drinking and drug-free (includes the use of Canabis). You must be willing to sign a Staff Agreement reflecting these principles.

If you are healthy, fit, honest and are hard-working, flexible with changes in the daily schedule and can work well in a team or sometimes alone and if you have have a happy, positive attitude, then you may qualify for this position.

Daily Schedule and Duties (Sunday through Friday)

Fall Schedule
8 am Quick scoop of the pens & prepare the dogs for morning exercise. Don’t be late!
8:30 am Run the dogs hitched to the four wheeler ATVs. This is fun!
9:30 am GET A GOOD BREAKFAST. This is a must! No time for meals until lunch.
10:30 am Report to the office for our staff meeting and start misc. work projects
3 pm Lunch (usually about 1 hour depending on work projects)
4 pm Kennel work and feeding dogs

Regular Work Duties include housekeeping, yard work, trail maintenance, car washing and possibly painting or renovation projects etc. The key is to be flexible and willing to do whatever jobs may be required. The usual day off regular work duties is Saturday. However, on Saturday, staff do visit the dogs at about noon to feed/water dogs and to do a quick clean up of the pens.

Working with our Sled Dogs

Our White Huskies are a unique, white, blue-eyed Arctic husky breed (Siberian/Malamute) and are beautiful, intelligent and strong with wonderful dispositions. There are 25 adults currently living in our kennel, all in need of attention! These dogs are very well socialized and interact beautifully with people.

Our dogs live in a new kennel complex with hot running water and nicely organized pens that makes working there very efficient. Staff share the responsibility of taking care of our huskies and sometimes boarding dogs from the community. Daily kennel duties include feeding, watering, cleaning pens. Staff help with exercising the dogs and have the opportunity to train them individually as well as in teams.

In summer and fall staff help us exercise the dogs using 4-wheeler ATVs.  In winter we switch to snowmobiles after the lake ice freezes and then start using dog sleds sometime in November when there is enough snow to make good trails.

So...if you have experience with animals or dogs in particular and can relate well to them, if you are also interested in working in the tourism industry, if you have a spirit of adventure and if you love nature and are ambitious, this experience may be perfect for you!
