Position: ECE - Early Childhood Educator

Full-time starting September 30, 2019
Pay rate: $18-$20/hr

Hundred Acre Wood Forest Preschool is launching in 2019 and we are ready to add to our team! If you are an RECE who is passionate about nature-based learning, and you love taking little ones outside All THE TIME, then read on!

We are a licensed non-profit preschool centre in Heathcote ON. We have a capacity of 5 toddlers (one class) and 16 preschoolers (2 classes). We are situated on 100 acres of meadow and forested land, with an indoor facility that reflects our outdoor learning philosophy.

The RECE will be the full time educator in the toddler or preschool classroom delivering a program that is play-based, nature-based, inquiry-based and meets the requirements of the regulatory bodies overseeing Early Years Childhood Education in Ontario. As part of the Hundred Acre Wood team the RECE will have the opportunity to shape and create both the indoor and outdoor learning environments.


  • Two-year Community College Early Childhood Education Diploma
  • Some experience working in the field of early childhood education
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification
  • A clear Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening done within the past 12 months
  • Up to date vaccinations
  • Must be physically able to assist children as required – (eg. Lifting, getting up and down from the floor frequently)
  • Must be prepared to dress appropriately for weather and conditions in order to be comfortable outside for long periods of time and at all times of the year
  • Must have a working knowledge of centre policies and procedures and adhere to them at all times
  • The ability to provide outstanding customer service to children and parents
  • An affinity for the natural world – either some education in this field or self-education and experience is an asset
  • Must take pride and joy in working with toddlers and preschoolers

Job Duties

  • Set up learning environments that invite play-based and nature-based learning
  • Care for and connect with each child
  • Oversee the health and well-being of all program participants
  • Stay up to date with educational expectations of parents and kindergarten programs
  • Communicate professionally with parents and staff when required
  • Perform a variety of tasks including but not limited to administrative, gardening, cleaning and cooking when possible

**This position is conditional upon the centre receiving a Ministry of Education license and a minimum number of registrants by opening day.
