E-Mechanic Position

We are seeking an experienced electrically-knowledgeable mechanic to help with the maintenance of our growing fleet of electric bicycles & tricycles.

Type: Part-Time (F/T opportunities w/ fleet management skills)
Hours: 15-20 hrs/week, flexible hours
Wage: $19/hr *Health+Dental benefits provided after 3 months

An E-Mechanic at Shift works on e-trikes which use very similar systems to e-bikes. This role requires you to work on: battery balancing, regenerative braking, controllers, lights & soldering. Work is done in a large warehouse space where you have your own workbench & work alongside another mechanic who handles the mechanical side. It is a supported role with regular meetings & check-ins but you are often left to work alone on projects in a timely manner.


  • Oversee regular maintenance of the trike & bike electric systems
  • Troubleshoot & repair unexpected issues
  • Communicate with your fellow Operations team members
  • Purchase & inventory parts and tools
  • Make repairs, do test rides & approve all work for safety
  • Review maintenance reports & note recurring trends
  • Assist with training new staff

Ideal Qualifications & Attributes:

*We are willing to work with the right person to train them further into these skills - please apply even if you don’t meet all the qualifications!

  • 2 years e-bike maintenance experience or related electrical training
  • Excellent troubleshooting & diagnostic skills
  • Experience with electric drive systems for bicycles
  • Respect for the importance of safety & your role in ensuring fleet integrity
  • Solid organizational skills: diligent about preventative maintenance & thorough record keeping
  • Soldering
  • Punctual, with strong time management & prioritization skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team & independently
  • Interest in long-term involvement & joining an alternative business model; democratically owned worker co-op. Growing our membership is important!

Bonus Skills & Qualifications We’re Looking For:

  • Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Degree (or partial degree) or a trades Electrician — students are welcome to apply!
  • Creativity to adapt existing parts to meet our unique needs
  • Experience fixing hydraulic brake systems and other bike parts
  • Project management skills, able to plan for & achieve goals
  • Experience with parts inventory
  • Drivers license
