Energy Action Coordinator

The Eagle Point-Blue Rapids Parks Council (Parks Council) is a non-profit, community-based multi-stakeholder organization committed to managing and operating Eagle Point Provincial Park and Blue Rapids Provincial Recreation Area in partnership with Alberta Environment and Parks – Parks Division. Incorporated in April 2008, under the Alberta Societies Act, the Parks Council currently has a volunteer board consisting of fifteen directors, representing a variety of stakeholders including Alberta Parks, local municipalities, outdoor recreation organizations and industry representatives. Reporting to the Executive Director, the EPBR Parks Council is seeking an experienced and proven professional to design, promote and deliver a community climate literacy education program focused on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Responsibilities

The Energy Action Coordinator will be responsible for the following:

  • Design and implementation of a climate literacy program to impact reduction in greenhouse gas emissions for regional community and school groups
  • Program content that will include topics related to renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy literacy, energy conservation and climate change.
  • Program development that will facilitate hands on demonstrations, webinar sessions, experimentation, data collection and analysis
  • Project promotion to regional schools, youth groups and adult learners interested in reducing energy consumption
  • Preparation of materials and program delivery to a variety of audiences including children, youth, and adults
  • Collaboration with professional consultants that will aid in program creation, design, and development
  • Scheduling and registration of organizations for program sessions
  • Recording and sharing success stories achieved by learners in reducing energy consumption and share via multi media
  • Development and implementation of a protocol for learners to report on personal or collective actions that quantifiably reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • Preparation on all reports as required by the Province of Alberta regarding Community Environment Action Grant Funds
  • Development of a digital copy of all project materials in production-ready format
  • Collaboration with EPBR Parks Council staff on accommodating programming opportunities
  • Coordinate with potential municipal partners in program partnerships for program delivery
  • Compliancy with the Government of Alberta visual identity policy

Key Experience and Competencies

We are seeking a candidate with:

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, science or environmental studies, with complimentary education or experience in outreach and communications;
  • A strong knowledge base around alternative energy sources
  • A demonstrated ability to develop, implement and lead an innovative, experiential education program
  • At least two years of practical experience in environmental and/or education program development and delivery
  • A high degree of comfort and experience in working with, non-profit organizations, volunteer boards and volunteers
  • Strong interpersonal skills, solid skills in group facilitation and collaborative planning, and the proven ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook)
  • Experience working within social media forums (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube)
  • A current valid Alberta driver’s license, with a very good driving record
  • Valid, current Criminal Record and Child Intervention Record checks
  • A willingness and ability to work flexible hours when needed, including some evenings and weekends

Terms of Employment

This is a part time position (based on a .4 full time equivalent) in Drayton Valley, Alberta. Compensation offered is competitive with established non-profit organizations and will be commensurate with skills, experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. Work flexibility will be critical in order to accommodate program delivery.
