Sea Smart is a charity that delivers innovative, engaging education programs based on science and current ocean issues to empower youth to be environmental champions in Metro Vancouver. We’re looking for a digital marketing campaign manager who has an entrepreneurial spirit, a passion for giving back to the community, and is keen to help us deliver our programs to Vancouverites and beyond. If you are highly motivated to achieve results, driven to do great work and adaptable to support and lead a variety of initiatives, then this is the role for you.

This individual is detail oriented with first class writing skills and enjoys creating content that helps convert into results. A great candidate for this role is self-motivated and continually researching the best channels and methods to promote digital content. They can also be described as a team player, able to catch whatever we may throw them and run with it effectively with a strong ability to communicate clearly on all tasks and given expectations, particularly in the case of short deadlines. Sea Smart’s Digital Marketing Specialist also has a keen desire to learn about how we can connect kids and families to nature, while elevating this with proven marketing strategies.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Plan and execute online and social media campaigns to promote Sea Smart and our programs
  • Creates and optimizes a variety of SEO and SEM campaigns in order to meet target KPIs that help bring in revenue for our charity, while increasing the popularity of our educational programs

    • Specifically be an expert in organic and paid programs to be deployed on the best platforms to reach the Sea Smart community/audience. This includes but is not limited to Facebook, Instagram and Google search (adwords, google display network etc.)
  • Develop a digital marketing program plan that documents and articulates details such as objectives, target audience, key message, project plans, initiatives, program sequencing, metrics and opportunities
  • Maintains monthly and quarterly metrics for all digital marketing and communications programs
  • Creates digital marketing content in order to drive and meet campaign objectives and goals

    • Plans and creates content calendars
    • Copywrite and ensures messaging/storytelling is all adapted to various markets
    • Works with the team and external vendors (where needed) to excel marketing tactics
  • Creates, tracks and manages targeted campaigns to drive qualified leads and opportunities through email marketing and other online marketing channels
  • Implements marketing programs that span digital channels not limited to but including email, search, digital content, web, and social media. This may include coordinating and/or partnering with industry partners, community partners and other ENGO’s
  • Communicates directly with Sea Smart external audiences and the Sea Smart team
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders on marketing programs
  • Manage day to day issues on timing, costs and creative work
  • Supports the process of creating and testing emails, landing pages and all marketing channels
  • May maintain relationships with vendor partners to troubleshoot technical challenges with online marketing campaigns and the website
  • Consistently stays relevant on the category, competitive landscape, and ocean conservation topics
  • Keeps abreast of innovative and pragmatic uses of emerging technologies and proactively makes recommendations to internal team members
  • Assist with the creation of pitch decks, presentations and communications (internal and external) collateral

Qualifications:

  • University bachelor’s degree or diploma in marketing, communications, business or related field.
  • 2-4 years of digital marketing experience
  • An understanding of the customer purchasing process/journey and how to engage at each stage
  • Uses creative approaches to support marketing and communications challenges
  • Experience with Adobe CS and/or Canva is an asset
  • Experience working with CMS like squarespace, wordpress and others
  • Knowledge and experience in executing and creating plans for owned digital and paid digital media including but not limited to: 

    • Social media
    • SEM/SEO
    • Email marketing
  • Demonstrates collaborative behavior and ability to maintain productive and effective working relationships with engagement, planning and creative teams
  • Exhibits strong communication skills with the ability to present information in verbal, written or visual form to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to take initiative and assume responsibility, and to simultaneously support multiple projects in varying stages
  • Desire to understand and provide insights from data
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an understanding of customer needs and the market landscape

Our team of marine biologists and oceanographers are passionate about youth education and environmental sustainability. Sea Smart uses fun, hands-on games and activities to teach youth in Kindergarten to Grade 12 about current issues impacting our oceans and get them brainstorming solutions in our online programs, school programs, after school programs, and summer camps.
