Position: Digital and Social Media Intern
Organization: Passive House Alberta
Location: preferred candidate residing in Alberta, but for the right candidate would consider someone anywhere in Canada
Eligibility: 30 or younger & post-secondary graduate

Employment type: Temporary Full-Time, 32 hours per week
Term: 4-months or more (dependent upon grant funding)
Reporting to: Executive Team
Rate: $30.00/hour

Passive House Alberta is a non-profit foundation dedicated to championing sustainable building in our province. As part of a global network committed to advocating for the highest energy efficiency standards in the building industry, we offer educational resources to help Albertans build healthier, more energy efficient homes and buildings.

Reporting to the Executive Team, this role will support the organization through researching, developing, implementing, and tracking a variety of initiatives. As the Digital and Social Media Intern, you will be working closely with individual Board Members and the Executive Director. Through training and mentoring activities, you will be exposed to concepts from Building Science, Energy Modelling. Environmental Science, Communications, Construction and Building Materials.

You will assist Passive House Alberta with several organizational development activities including:

  • Content planning, writing, and scheduling; website and other media updates
  • Designing and implementing digital and social media surveys, marketing and membership drives; drafting a monthly plan for social media posts;
  • Analyzing and amalgamating results, engagement information and statistics; making recommendations based on your findings;
  • Connecting with our partners about upcoming events, webinars or course releases; researching new opportunities and options for partnerships and sponsors;
  • Manage organizational email accounts;
  • Design and publish appropriate newsletter content through MailChimp;
  • Researching, developing, implementing, and tracking a variety of other initiatives.


The ideal candidate has:

  • Excellent writing, editing, fact-checking and online research skills;
  • Digital and Social Media experience, including content planning, writing, marketing and online community management;
  • Experience writing high-quality proposals, surveys, applications, and supporting documents;
  • Experience developing newsletter content and publishing through MailChimp;
  • Experience working with G Suite and Microsoft Office Suite applications, as well as Adobe Suite and Wordpress;
  • Organizational, Analytical, and Problem-solving skills;
  • Strong, polished Communication skills and a professional etiquette;
  • An ability to manage processes and schedules to ensure the timely submission of all required materials;
  • Creative self-starter and multi-tasking capabilities with the ability to work independently.

Experience working in the Not-for-Profit sector is an asset. Knowledge of Environmental Science, Construction, Buildings, and/or Building Materials is an asset.

Additional Information

This position offers the opportunity to work remotely and duties may vary daily.

This position will be supported by grant funding and eligibility restrictions will be applied. In order to be considered for this application, you must be:

  • 30 years of age or younger
  • A Canadian citizen/permanent resident/refugee (not available to International Students)
  • A post-secondary graduate
  • Legally able to work in Canada
  • Able to work a minimum of 32 hours/week
