Position: Maintenance Assistant & Delivery Driver

WHO ARE WE?

Longview Farms is a progressive grower and shipper of a wide variety of Certified Organic fruit and vegetable crops as well as conventional fresh-cut daffodils, daffodil bulbs, pumpkins, hay and grain. We are the largest Certified Organic farm on Vancouver Island and our produce, flowers and bulbs can be found in several local retail stores throughout Vancouver Island and the mainland.

Our farm is in the municipality of Central Saanich on Southern Vancouver Island which is on the West Coast of British Columbia. This area hosts some of the most productive farmland in Canada.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Head Grower, the Maintenance Assistant & Delivery Driver is responsible for supporting farm maintenance activities to ensure effective and efficient operation of all greenhouse, warehouse, office and field-based structures and equipment. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for the loading, storage (in vehicle) and delivery of goods to customers located across the greater Victoria area.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operating a commercial vehicle to deliver goods to customers located across the greater Victoria area in adherence with strict delivery schedules and with a positive, professional attitude.
  • Running errands and picking up supplies/ parts for the farm as needed.
  • Working with facilities manager to perform routine maintenance as well as required troubleshooting on the farms building components, including HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems.
  • Troubleshooting and performing routine maintenance on farm equipment and vehicles, as required.
  • Working with facilities manager in the greenhouse, assisting with a variety of different repairs ranging from infrastructure, cleaning, plumbing and electrical.
  • Working in the field as necessary, assisting in repairs on irrigation and field equipment.
  • Assisting with the coordination of all security and health & safety maintenance protocols for the farm; including all buildings and structures.
  • Working with the packing lead to load and effectively store goods in the delivery vehicle for transport.
  • Supporting the review and updating of all maintenance and delivery SOP’s.
  • Following all occupational health and safety regulations and protocols at all times.

As a small business with dynamic needs, not all duties and responsibilities can be documented. All employees in the company are expected to be flexible and adaptable with a willingness to take on new and different work, as required and as the business necessitates.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience preferred in general maintenance in an industrial or farming environment.
  • Class 5 driver’s license with a clean abstract; air brakes endorsement is considered an asset.
  • Forklift experience is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) and First Aid / CPR is considered an asset.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is considered an asset
  • Strong work ethic, honest, customer service focus, and positive “can do” team attitude.
  • Ability to lift more than 50lbs, load/unload product and work in a physically demanding environment for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as seasonally required by the farm.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

REMUNERATION

An hourly wage of $18.00 per hour will be provided.

WORK SCHEDULE

This is a permanent part-time role with an anticipated work schedule of twenty-five (25) – thirty-two (32) hours per week to start. There is potential to develop into a full time forty (40) hours per week position.
