Position: Market Coordinator
Organization: Ottawa Markets
Work location: Byward Market Square, Ottawa, Ontario

Job Summary

The Market Coordinator reports to the Market Operations Manager and is responsible for supporting vending operations, participating in promotion of the ByWard and Parkdale Markets, and providing front line customer service to vendors and the public.

This position supports the overall function of the Market operations by ensuring logistical requirements are in place to support the daily vending, busking and tourism programs. This includes the functional supervision of seasonal or part-time staff.

Responsibilities and Duties

Vending Operations

  • Assists with the review and processing of vending applications
  • Responsible for daily stand allocation activities including making stands available, distributing stands as per policy and collecting payments
  • Responsible for issuing permits and keeping record and statistics of stand allocation activities
  • Answers general inquiries or complaints from standholders
  • Monitoring market operations to ensure vendor compliance with policies and procedures
  • Addresses compliance issues and documents ongoing issues
  • Oversees parking administration program

Promotion and Tourism Services

  • Oversees daily promotional activities in the market district
  • Supports events that animate and attract customers to the Markets
  • Provides functional supervision of part time operational staff
  • Delivers training and daily task assignments to part time staff

Administrative and Financial Duties

  • Responsible for petty cash and daily reconciliation of payment receipts
  • Ensuring accuracy in the collection of fees
  • Oversees records and file management
  • Collects daily and monthly statistics
  • Provides general administrative support to all market operations functions

Qualifications and Skills


  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in markets, retail and or tourism services.


  • Knowledgeable of Ottawa’s markets, tourism and business communities
  • Knowledgeable about how to interpret and administer policies and procedures

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Salary: $17.00 to $21.00 /hour
