Position: Development Assistant

The Vancouver Botanical Gardens Association (VBGA) is based at VanDusen Botanical Garden, with a mission to engage people in the importance of biodiversity to our lives and to foster a lifelong love of plants and gardens.

We are searching for a dedicated and environmentally conscious Development Assistant to assist our development department in supporting programs and services run at VanDusen Botanical Garden and the Bloedel Conservatory and fostering a culture of philanthropy in our organization.

Duties for the Development Assistant will include: providing excellent customer service; preparing reports; drafting letters and proposals; engaging with donors; tracking contributions; preparing and managing mailing lists and direct mailings; assisting with event planning; ensuring timely acknowledgment of contributions; assisting with social media activities and updates; preparing sponsorship kits and impact reports; and helping with the daily administrative functions of the department.

Your expertise in supporting development efforts and providing customer service will assist our organization in strengthening relationships with clients and donors, streamlining development processes, researching and identifying funding opportunities, and promoting the organization's mission and values to external stakeholders.

This position is perfect for someone starting their fundraising career and for those who would like to gain experience in the administrative and fundraising functions of a development department.

The ideal candidate for this role should possess good people skills, communication skills, and time management skills. The noteworthy Development Assistant should enhance the efficiency of administrative functions, maintain positive relations with donors, and ensure the integrity of development processes.

Development Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining relations and expectations with donors and clients.
  • Maintaining client and donor databases and Trees for Life Donor Wall.
  • Coordinating the Adopt-A-Tree Program.
  • Coordinating direct mailings.
  • Preparation of fundraising reports.
  • Researching potential donors and funders.
  • Organizing the development department filing system: soft and hard copy.
  • Distributing development materials.

Development Assistant Requirements:

  • Customer service-oriented.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Database management experience is an asset.
  • Degree in marketing or communications is an asset.

Availability:

25 hours/wk., Monday – Friday. Some weekend and evening shifts required.
