Are you looking for an opportunity to work in one of the most pristine, beautiful places on Earth? The Village Bakery is located at the base of the St. Elias Mountain Range in the Yukon and at the doorstep of Kluane National Park. Being so close to Kluane gives rise to several outdoor activities for all experience levels, including mountain biking, white water rafting, hiking and camping, glacier-viewing, tours, canoeing, fishing, you name it. We are looking for people that share our interests and who can be part of a small team.
Our business is seasonal and runs from early-May to mid-September where serve genuine home cooked food and fresh baked goods to travellers, hikers and anyone who is passing through our town. One of our main goals is to reduce waste and to educate our visitors about the impacts of waste on our planet. The mountains, trees, and scenery do the rest of our job for us – appreciation of our beautiful planet.
We have a number of positions to fill including front end Café Attendant, Custodian, Cook and Baker. A Café Attendant needs to be someone who enjoys dealing with customers and is able to multi-task and work efficiently. This is a fast paced job where you are constantly on your feet. The Custodian role is fairly open-ended depending on our needs at the time, but do expect to wash lots of dishes, help unload and stock weekly inventory, slice lots of deli meats and use the big fancy mixer to grate huge blocks of cheese!
Given the high intensity of work we require Cooks and Bakers to be experienced applicants. The primary responsibilities of the Cook include preparing food items from scratch, including soups, salads, casseroles, pastas, wraps, grilled vegetables, pulled pork, etc. according to our standard recipes. New menu items or daily specials are encouraged for busier weekend days. The Cook is also responsible for maintaining an inventory of ingredients and preparing a shopping list for our weekly trip to town. Experience with vegetarian and vegan dishes is an asset. Experience handling fresh fish an asset. Position is full-time, working approx. eight hours a day, five days a week.
The Bakers work night shift to prepare all baked goods fresh before opening the store at 7am.
