Position: Communications Officer / writer

Salal Foundation’s mission is to research, test, and scale innovative strategies that nurture transparency, citizen engagement, democracy, and communities living within natural limits. We maximize the effectiveness of our work by undertaking projects and supporting organizations and leaders advancing innovative strategic solutions in our priority areas.
We’ve hit a growth spurt and are currently looking to increase our communications capacity and content creation. To support our staff, who work remotely from home offices across Canada, we are hoping to hire a word-driven individual who loves to read, write, and research political and other happenings in western Canada. The main duties and tasks will require your own work space, computer, and internet connection.
Note: we have Canada Summer Jobs funding for this position; ideal candidates will meet the eligibility requirements. “Candidates must be 15–30 years of age, a permanent Canadian resident, citizen, or refugee, and work a minimum of 30–40 hours a week for at least 8 weeks in duration. Ongoing employment beyond the CSJ period is possible if superior performer.

As part of a fast growing communications team, your specific skills and interests will join others to deliver on our many current and future projects. We are open to many skills / interests configurations, so let us know what you can do, what you most want to do, and what you want to learn in a communications role that can be partly customized to you.

Additional information
Work hours are flexible as long as you have some availability Mon-Fri 9-5 Pacific Time. The initial expectation (pending funding) is 35 hours per week for 8 weeks (July-August). We will assess fit, availability, and our organizational needs for ongoing work following the initial period.
