Be The Change Earth Alliance is a dynamic, creative and ever evolving ENGO embarking on an exciting mission to empower and elevate the voice of youth to bring environmental and social change education into high-schools, communities and companies. Be The Change has been devoted to global sustainability through transformative education that empowers personal and systemic behaviour change for fifteen years. We deeply explore and experiment with models of change while providing inspiring programs for community, companies and, most importantly, the public education system.

THE OPPORTUNITY

BTCEA is looking for talented, creative, value-centred, young leaders looking for fulfilling, meaningful lives filled with all sorts of experiences and opportunities; who will thrive in an environment of shared leadership and self-direction, where individual actions combine to achieve collective vision

THE COMMUNICATIONS ROLE

Working within an interactive team dynamic, this valued team player will have creative input into programming on all levels while providing the skills and talent to create clear, compelling and informed communications in a variety of modes such as stories and articles, grants and reports, workshop design & facilitation; customized for a variety of media such as website, email, social media, print; delivering key messaging through written, spoken and visual applications.

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES, SKILLS or EXPERIENCE

  • Passionate about environmental and social justice
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to discern needs and adapt offerings to fulfill expectations
  • Flexibility of communication style, from friendly to formal as needed
  • Likes to research and synthesize information to support goals
  • Good at seeing projects through to completion, from the macro vision to the detailed accuracy at a pixel or punctuation level
  • give and receive team feedback
  • Self-motivated, able to set priorities and focus in shared workspace
  • Open, authentic, relational in team meetings

ASSETS

  • Experience writing grants, articles and/or public speaking
  • Understanding of public education system
  • Experience with Nation Builder and/or ability to pick up content management systems easily
  • Multi-lingual, especially French
  • Experience working with video and/or digital programs: Photoshop or Illustrator
  • Familiar with engagement ladders, system or behaviour change models or theories of change

  • Relevant Post-Secondary degrees or certificates

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (for wage subsidy program)

  • Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Under 30 years old

CONDITIONS

  • Flexible hours, from 25 –35 hours per week
  • Starting salary ranges from $20 - $23/hour depending upon education and experience, with semiannual increases
  • Two weeks paid vacation per year
  • Flexibility for leave of absence for extended vacations
