Position: Director of Communications and Engagement
Organization: The Bruce Trail Conservancy
Location: Dundas, Hamilton/Burlington, Ontario

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

The Bruce Trail Conservancy (BTC) is one of Ontario’s largest and most active land trusts, committed to securing, conserving, and maintaining the Bruce Trail within a permanently protected natural corridor along the Niagara Escarpment. As an organization, we are committed to growing our support base to achieve our mission of preserving a ribbon of wilderness for everyone, forever. We are implementing an ambitious new strategy to achieve our vision and are expanding our staff team to help make it happen.

ABOUT THE POSITION

We have an immediate need for a Director of Communications and Engagement to work out of the BTC office located in picturesque Dundas, Ontario. Reporting to the CEO, this position oversees a small departmental staff and is responsible for managing communication, stakeholder engagement, brand and event planning activities in support of our strategy, with a particular focus on creating engaging communications and promotions, and increasing brand awareness.

The successful candidate will:

  • Lead all communications efforts across all platforms including traditional media, print materials, online, social media
  • Establish and execute communications solutions including detailed plans with relevant budgets and timelines
  • Manage brand assets, and write and edit all BTC communications efforts across all audiences and platforms
  • Engage and manage production with third-party suppliers where required
  • Develop and maintain content and brand standards and templates for communications products
  • Plan and execute events in support of various BTC initiatives, engaging internal and external resources as needed
  • Contribute new ideas and approaches to growing the BTC’s audience and supporter base across all media platforms

SUMMARY OF Qualifications AND EXPERIENCE

  • Formal post-secondary education in communications, marketing, journalism or similar discipline or demonstrated experience
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a related role
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective internal/external stakeholder relationships
  • Strategic communication, presentation and negotiation skills
  • Strong writing, editing and production skills applicable across multiple communications platforms
